My Stay at Zamzibar Beach Resort

Had a wonderful experience here. I enjoyed swimming and the view to the sea is amazing. Excellent sea view. I will definitely come back whenever I have a chance. Staff were excellent. Jackson, Rehema, Isaac, Agnes, Maria, the new manager/superviser and everyone else. Thank to the hotel team. Phillip Sabuni

Excellent place to stay near Stone Town

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights and erybody took very good care of us. The rooms are clean, staff very friendly, so don't hesitate to get a few Swahili lessions from them! Thanks once again to Roy and all of his team for this amazing stay. The hotel is 10 minutes away by car from Stone Town. You can get a private taxi who will wait for you and take you back in the evening. I can only recommend this place

EXTREMELY TIRED RESORT, NOISY AND VERY DISAPPOINTING

We made a terrible mistake booking this resort hotel. We realised our mistake at check in with lines of local people waiting to enter and paying for write bands at the resort. When we saw our room and the pool area we were even more devastated. We had booked the room a couple of days before and we booked for 3 nights. However, the hotel does not offer refunds. We spoke with the manager to see if we could leave immediately and have a refund but he wouldnt allow it. We offered that the hotel take 50% of the money for the full three nights if we leave now and stay elsewhere but this was also refused. We booked through Expedia but Expedia said it is the resort that has a policy of offering no refunds. The manager said we could leave the hotel but the entire three night stay of USD 420 would be charged regardless. The resort is full with day pass users who are local people who pay between USD 2-4 for a day pass to use the pool and facilities. There are no sun loungers or seating for the guests of the hotel near the pool as these are taken, it is extremely loud music all day, every day from Friday to Sunday inclusive until 7pm. Its a pool party. You cant even hide in your room to avoid the noise. The hotel advertises COVID 19 restrictions with social distancing and temperature check but there is absolutely nothing and the pool is packed. We couldnt go near it given the complete failure for health and safety. The day we checked out, which was a Monday, the pool area was quiet and the three day pool party was over. Although the name of the resort as well as the pictures on their website suggests there is a beach...well, the beach is unusable. Its full of rubbish. The manager explained that this side of the island does not have any nice beaches. The rooms are very tired indeed. Not what you would expect for USD 140 a night. The first room was in the palace area but we were moved to a sea view room. This was a marginally better room but also very tired and did not look like its been updated in 40 years. My partner received an electric shock from the plug socket. The old appliances are dangerous. Although I wanted to leave the hotel immediately despite a refund not being offered, we decided not to ruin the rest of the holiday and each day we did day trips out of the resort. I could not have spent a day in this awful place. We visited Nakupenda, prison island and Safari Blue to find a beach during day trips to escape this terrible resort. We had hoped to just relax for the last few days of our holiday at the resort, however, this was impossible and we were forced out of the resort with the noise and crowds of people. Having to spend so much extra on day trips was frustrating. The staff at meal times are polite and helpful and the food is edible. This resort is in serious need of an update. Either the resort is for hotel guests or it is for day pass users. There isnt space for both.

    TERRIBLE...terrible way to start 2021

This hotel is nothing like in the pictures or anywhere close to what their website is describing. To start there is no beach and the pool is so dirty that you will not want to go in. You will probably want to sunbed...this only if you find an available not broken sun bed which I guarantee you is not easy. The hotel is open to public guests coming from the villages around and doesnt prioritize the hotel guests. Furthermore no towels available at the pool. And if you request a towel at the reception they ask you to sign a paper in case you lose it is 20$. (Wait to see the state of the towel) Cleanliness of the rooms is optional...if you dont specifically request for it, its not gonna be done. I left early morning for an excursion, came back at 5 pm and the cleaning was not done. Only after I asked the reception, the lady came. The next day similar story they made the bed to show that someone was in the room but they didnt clean the bathroom or put new towels so again had to ask the reception to have at least new towels...btw the phone is not working so every time you have to make the trip back and forward to speak with the reception and most of the time no one is there so you need to wait around. They dont provide you with shampoo/ conditioner and shower gel, you will only have a little soap. Unless you ask reception again and then they come with something improvised. The hairdryer is from the 80 the fridge if you are lucky is working if not is anyway disgustingly dirty and smelly. The electricity goes on and off and the water pressure in the shower is very low. Overall, one star is a bit too much for the price we paid.
