A 2 night stay ... long enough.A 2 night stay to allow some R&R in a longer trip to Nagasaki and Fukuoka. The hotel claims a long heritage in Unzen - and it's time for a refurb. The room was traditional Japanese style with beds made up for the evening on the floor. Fine. However, the bathrooms were 'tired' without a separate toilet. The shower was inadequate, the hip-bath chipped, and low water pressure which meant that the bath took AGES to fill (I eventually gave up). The 'sitting area' in the room was on the enclosed balcony comprise 2 old chairs and a table with a carpet which would have been contemporary in 1960. The onsen in the hotel was not bad - at least the water pressure made for a better shower. However, you needed to take the towel from your room - which meant that you never really had a properly dry towel to use. The hotel included traditional breakfast & dinner - very well presented. The hotel had weird piped music in all the corridors (American song tunes - but in a Japanese style) in fact the town itself played piped music from 8am to 10 pm which made it feel like you were a part in the film The Truman Show ... at least that stopped at night! An interesting little village where there are numerous vents of sulphurous gasses and hot springs heated from a magma chamber which also feeds springs at Obama and Shimabara. Two days is long enough to see everything there is to see - after that you also need to get back to somewhere that serves a decent lunch!

Nice, clean and comfortable hotelRelatively not many people go to Unzen, feel a bit local Japanese style hotel that I really like to stay in. We booked a Japanese style room, clean and comfortable. Natural onsen and Unzen Jigoku Natural Park just few minutes walk from the hotel. Also, the food provided in the hotel quite surprising me is really taste good and fresh.

Below expectationsRoom was rather dark and dingy. Bathroom area was really rather narrow. Public bath area was so so although they did have a sulphuric water pool, indoor and outdoor. The dinner was not bad however the breakfast very average. Would not really bother to stay again so we were amazed that the hotel was packed.

Pretty Traditional Japanese Hotel with Great Customer ServiceIm still staying at the hotel now, but its been a great to be here. I checked in late but hotel staff was very kind and friendly. Past midnight, I took loop trail at Unzen Hell with a tiny light. It was scary but fun experience. Im gonna wake up early tomorrow to get in onsen (hot spring) at the hotel and see what Unzen Hell is like in the morning. Probably, less scary:-)

Good traditional onsen hotel in UnzenGood traditional Japanese Ryokan with Onsen. Location is perfect, in the middle of the small town. The hotel is a bit old, as of other hotels in the area. Room is large, dinner is good. Car park is free and room charge is not high. Overall it's a good stay in Unzen
