It is such a nice place, so kind people, a place to don't miss

A Ryokan, is a traditional japanese style inn, with a history of over 300 years. This one, Tatsuta Ryokan is not so old, and it is not close to a old traditional road. Conditions are excelent, the rooms (all) are facing the river, and at night until 23 PM the water is lightened. At night if you like to walk you can get from the hotel staff a lantern (real one) and inside a real candle will make your light on the way. It is so nice to walk at night, just like 200 years ago people were doing. The spa area, consist of 3 family spa places and a double public one (woman and men). Also outside a foot spa. Food was gorgeous, you can choose and order in advance your dinner menu, when you make the reservation.

Nice, but out of the way

Since I came from Kyoto, en route to Tokyo, it was quite a hassle to get to (express shinkansen to all stations shinkansen to private rail to bus. ). Once I got there, it was pretty awesome though. Off peak in the middle of winter in a weekday, some other guests were in the private baths, and we had the public baths to ourselves. Very relaxing. Both dinner and breakfast had around 10 dishes, such that none of us finished. Another poster said that you can choose your menu, which, which we didn't know about, and as a result we got so very many types of seafood that, as Australians, we were unfamiliar with

    We...

We stayed one night in New wing in. Only this side you can sit kawadoko with dinner. It's amazing location for it. It was so yummy Japanese food. You can tell about meals when you reserve a hotel if you don't eat meat or fishes whatever. But actually here is known especially wild boar meat. Also fresh wasabi and soba. It was still pretty cold temperature on kawadoko at night. But there were some heating, kotatsu and good sake!! After that Rotenburo also. It was enough for spending warm and good time with my wife.

    hardly precious

1 hot springs The main factor that this hotel wishes to present is the hot springs, or ONSEN in Japanese. They actually are quite good. They have four private-style onsen rooms. You don't have to reserve; go see and if it is empty, you can use it. Don't forget to lock the door! 2 food The food is poor. The food that is supposed to be served hot was often served tepid (sometimes cold). The food that is supposed to be served cold was sometimes frozen. I especially did not like the boiled fish: too strongly seasoned, and not warm enough. We also ordered a bottle of white wine. It took about 15 minutes for them to bring it to us. The quality of the food and the service were far from good. 3 accommodation Since it is a "renewed" hotel, some facilities are old. The room itself was new and clean, but some equipments such as bathrooms and windows were not. Some may feel uncomfortable due to the malodor. Our room was on the top floor so it was quiet at night, but those who stayed on the ground floor said the noise of the river current was more disturbing that they had thought. But I can see that the employees are working hard to clean them up. 4 price We went on a rush season, so they price was quite expensive, about 55,000 per room. To be honest, the price is too high for the service and the food. If it was about 30,000 yen, well we could think it would be fair. 5 English Every signs including the food menu are in Japanese. I cannot say for sure, but i cannot expect any English speaking staff. 6 Overall I would not visit there again.

Pretty nice hot springs, but for the effort to get there...

It was our second time to the area. When we arrived, I was impressed with the entrance, although there wasn't any warm greeting. We had a car, so it was not too bad to get there. Getting there by any other kind of transportation would have been a hassle. There is a wifi hotspot near the lobby, but other than that nothing. Why not??? The room was nice, with a wooden sunken bath overlooking the river. The lobby is on the 5th floor, which is the top floor. Everything else is down and the hotel runs along the river. There are four private baths that are quite nice, although they close at around 11 pm and do not open again until 3 pm the next day....again...why??? Some of the waterspouts for the showers do not work or have extremely low water pressure. As for the food, maybe a 5/10. It is a half buffet, with some food already on the table (sashimi...standard and nothing special), with a couple of table with salad, fruit, a few kinds of cake, tempura (not hot), etc. Nothing memorable. Breakfast was similar but I think I wasn't the only one who wanted a cup of coffee...too bad. There wasn't any. They should invest in a machine. The English instructions around the hotel are limited and spotty. There should be more consistency with that due to the obvious large number of foreign guests. Although I really enjoyed the outdoor baths, I don't think I would make the effort to go again. If you can get a cheap rate, enjoy.
