    Better services are necessary

We came here in a group of nine for 2 nights. We have reserved car pick up upon arrive Yufuin railway station. However, the hotels pick-up car can only hold 7 persons and the hotel has no intention to provide additional car to fulfill our needs which I believe its hotels obligation. As a result, we need to hire a taxi and pay by ourselves. So, the first impression to this hotel is negative. We stayed in a villa which has its own indoor onsen. The onsen, situated in the garden, is good and quite enjoyable. Alongside there is the rooms shower facility(BTW there is no in-door shower room). I can not imagine take a shower during the Winter time. The set of dinner courses is considered average and its not impress. At the hotel lobby, free coffee is provided. The coffee is good.

Terrible experience ever!!!!! Never wanna stay there!!!! Bad service!!

6 3600 This is the worst hotel in Japan that I have ever stayed in my whole life. This hotel service is pretty bad. A big hotel without one person can speak English. Also, when my 6 month old bony stay, they insist charge us 3600 Japanese dollars!!!! Pretty nonsense! The staff call- attitude is mean and unfriendly!!!! We stayed other two hotels this trip, no one charge us any fee of a infant stay!!!!! The manager and staff dont allow us to talk but using translation app to talk to us. I think this hotel service is very poor! Plus, the room is unclean and has mold! I WOULD NOT recommend anyone stay here!!! The worst hotel and living experience in Japan ever!!!! your hotel staff really need to improve your English skill and service way!!!!

Great staff, great food, needs some modernization

We had a special trip to Oita and wanted to stay in a hotel with great service, great food and private hot springs...so from that perspective, everything was great. The service was friendly and, under the circumstances of having SO many Korean and Chinese guests who often don't follow the rules and leave garbage everywhere...what else is new, wherever we travel in the world, the staff there handled them well and gave us great service. One thing is that someone at the hotel has to clean up after rude guests leave their crap in the private hot springs, and also have some kind of system to limit the amount of time guests stay in the private hot springs. The food was awesome. Delicious dinner in a private room, excellent semi-buffet breakfast (with kimuchi, of course). The futons were hard. Too hard. Bad sleep, so I can't stay there again. The room needs updating...something I usually don't complain about...I usually just attribute it to "retro" style. The view from the hotel is awesome and I highly recommend the rooftop to see the stars, have a drink and chillax in private, day or night. Anyway, if you can get a good price, stay there. If not, try another hotel. It is a great location if you want to climb Mt. Yufu. Enjoy!

    I had a good time

I stayed there last week. Every hotel staff I met from shuttle service to the front desk & dining services was professional & showed 100% of their hospitality. My Japanese style room has a great mountain view and a private bathroom (I was glad that I did not need to share with others). This Janpanese ryokan has a bit of rustic feelings. Both room & balcany are spacious. There was no problems for me to use & try out the public bath & several private hot springs last week. The location is not walkable to Yufuin train station but the hotel provided the complimentary shuttle serivce that addressed my concern. I am satisfied with the Japanese style dinner & breakfast, not fancy but a good taste. When checking out, I asked the change the shuttle from 930 to 840 and the front desk honored my request even I was the only guest in the shuttle. I wasvery happy with my stay.

Poor customer service... unclean and outdated... best avoided

We have traveled throughout Japan for the last several weeks following the Rugby World Cup and we have had an amazing time. Wonderful hospitality, wonderful people and great experiences... sadly this Onsen failed to deliver on any of our expectations. It was truly an awful experience. The staff were rude, ignorant and totally lacking in any sense of welcoming behavior. The room was smelly/musty, the sheets were dirty... in fact dirty sheets were piled up in the corridors. Spiders were everywhere, including the room...The food was terrible, bordering on inedible and there was zero effort made to accommodate any kind of western tastes... we spoke with a number of couples during our stay here and the consensus was the same from everyone we spoke to. Avoid this place until they improve on every level. We raised the numerous issues with the front desk manager who had no interest in discussing our concerns/disappointments... I hope his boss reads this review as he should be sacked.
