    Great location, Japanese Style

We stayed in a Japanese style room with dinner and breakfast included. The room was simple and beds were laid out while we were at dinner and packed away while we were at breakfast. Being "westerners" we would have benefitted with a little more info on "Japanese etiquette" (i.e. we were the only ones wearing 'normal' clothes at dinner when the other guests were wearing the provided Japanese clothes). We didn't get a chance to use the traditional baths in the hotel as we were only staying one night and there is plenty to see in Nara. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

    Excellent situation and amazing staff

Excellent situation for this ryokan, just in front of the lake and near the main temples and gardens with deers. The room are japanese style with tatami and futon, very clean and you can wear kimono and take a private onsen if you want with your family. Japanese breakfast is very special...funny! A big thank you to the staff very friendly, they try to give you the best during your stay!!!!

    Nothing special...

Let's face it: this place may be a "Japanese hotel" but it's is also worn and furnished in style popular some 30 years ago topped with some kitsch decorations. I chose this place as other places where car parking was possible were sold out near the Nara Park. I do not think it worth the double/triple price they ask compared to other hotels in Nara. LOCATION My 4/5 for the location Next to the pagoda marking the place where the Nara Park starts and close to the walking street leading through Nara, the location is quite good. It's 1,5 kilometres to Todai-ji temple and the deers wander also around the hotel specifically in early mornings. Walking street is just 4 minutes from the hotel. If you are taking the train you could look for a place closer to the railway station (Nara Station). ROOM 2/5 for the room With four floors most of the rooms look not towards the pond but to a narrow side street. Already when entering the lobby gives away what to expect: worn out and outdated furniture and some kitsch decorations. The room was big and immaculately cleaned apart the dirty sofa. The rattan laundry baskets were falling apart and wardrobe and other storage furniture looked vary worn and outdated indeed. Bathroom was possibly the worst experience: plastic cubicle where one hardly fit in not to mention trying to get out as the door opened inside - you'd need to climb in to the bathtub to open the door for getting out. Generally, the yellowish beige colours in the room reminded of 1970s - and not in positive retro meaning. Beds were on raised tatami base: ordinary spring mattresses (no lumpy futons). BREAKFAST 2/5 for breakfast Japanese fair - if you like tofu and miso soup with some fermented stuff then the breakfast they serve may be perfect. Nicely laid out but not my cup of tea. PUBLIC BATHS 2/5 for the public bath A square indoor bath tub with buckets for washing up - typical and nothing special for a Japanese style hotel. Small Japanese inner-yard garden on the way to the baths. SUMMARY You might as well stay close to the railway station in one of the newer hotels. The place is not bad but there's really nothing special to it either. Nearly the only plus is location.

Delightful Location just beside temples and park

This hotel was a great find - there isn't any actual name that we could recognise from the front, didn't look like a hotel. yes, it was Japanese style but the welcome and the courteous staff were delightful. we had a western style room with no meals, at the front of the building overlooking the small pond/lake which was very pleasant.. Easy 15min walk from station, get directions from helpful tourist office right beside the station on the kintetsu line not the main railway station which is quite a bit further away. plenty of restaurants within walking distance down the main walking street. a very pleasant 2 days spent here
