  Charmless 3-star business hotel but clean rooms and close to Longmen Grottoes

  We stayed two nights at Luoyang Yijun Hotel and it is ok for a short stay at this price. When we checked in, the three ladies at the reception did not speak english at all. :-( Communication in english was very difficult. On the second day, there was one lady who spoke a bit english. The staff at the reception and in the restaurants do not know the meaning of hospitality, so the service was not 4 star alike. No smile, no hello, no thank you, no goodbye, no thanks for staying with us ... even not in chinese. Only the housekeeping ladies were friendly and gave us a warm smile. :-) The food in the restaurant on the first night was excellent but on the second night the same dishes tasted differently and less delicious. Must have been a different cook. ;-) The bedroom and the bathroom were good but you will find some roommates in the shower! There are tiny little black worms living in the mudding of the joints!!! They come out of the joints when the shower is getting wet. Thats why we changed the room but there were roommates too! :-( The bus station is right in front of the hotel. :-) Bus 56 to White Horse Temple and bus 81 to Longmen Grottoes (10 min., 1.50 RMB/person) and Baiyuan Park. The Longmen Train Station (for Express-trains) is only 5 min. away by taxi (taxometer = 6 RMB, if the hotel orders a taxi = 10 RMB). :-) You can reach the main train station of Luoyang in about 30 min. by taxi (30 RMB). Breakfast is served between 7am to 9am. Its not worth getting up early unless you are a morning bird. The food (mainly chinese dishes) was cold and the orange juice was warm and not delicious. No coffee or tea was served, only warm orange juice ... :-( There arent any restaurants or cafés around the hotel but the location is in a safe and quiet area even it is right next to the main street. At night, you will hear the horn of the trains passing but its not too bad. In our point of view, this hotel does not deserve 4 stars. Its only a business hotel with max. 3 stars for a short stay, thats it.

  Overall experience is very good!

  Our family stayed one night in this hotel as we planned to visit famous Longmen Grottoes. +location (10 min by bus 53 and 81 to the Longmen Grottoes, 5 minutes from the train station by taxi) +breakfast (more traditional one, no coffee) +clean room +pleasant stuff +nice hotel (though looks a bit dated) -no places to eat reasonably close to the hotel

  Helpful staff, close to Grottos, far from the old town

  The hotel rates itself as a 4-star; more like 2.5, at most 3. The rooms are a bit shabby, the beds extremely firm. Old towels, non-working (and portable) safe deposit boxes. The only person who could speak passable English was the bellboy. However, the staff went out of their way to help. When we wanted to change train tickets, they even volunteered to go to the station on their own time and do this for us. Another lady helped at every meal trying to translate for us. Very close to Longmen Grottos and to Luoyang Longmen Railway Station (fast G-trains)! If you are in town mostly to visit the caves, the location is very convenient. 10 min by taxi to the Caves, probably even the bus (53) would work, although we haven't tried. Luoyang museum (recommended) is also close by taxi.
