Pleasant Japanese InnWe stayed at the Hakuryuso in May 2012. We were not sure what the place would be like, and booked through the Japanican website. There were three of us traveling together. Upon check-in we found that our room was large, and on the ground floor overlooking the beautiful Japanese garden. This time of year, the irises were in full bloom. Dinner was an adventure - a multi-course dinner was served in our room. The server spoke English which was very helpful, and she explained each dish to us. After dinner, she set up the futon bedding in the room, which was quite comfortable. There is a private bathroom in each of the rooms, but hotel guests can also use the communal soaking tubs down the hall. Breakfast was served in the hotel dining room which had beautiful views of the garden, and was also a multi-course affair. We enjoyed the food and especially the presentation. So many dishes, small portions, so beautifully presented. Be aware that there is not western food at this hotel, so if you are averse to sashimi, unagi, rice, and pickled vegetables, this might not be the place for you. We were not able to get the WIFI to work although the hotel gave us a password. The persons at the front desk barely spoke any English, so we got by the best we could. They did understand some of our basic questions - like asking for a taxi, when is breakfast, etc. The hotel is clean, and very quiet. The room was large (but be aware that Japanese style rooms don't have much furniture -- no bed to rest on if you are tired in the afternoon.) We were exhausted after a day of traveling and touring, and ended up sitting upright in the two chairs in the room. The other option was to sit on the tatami mat floor, which we thought was uncomfortable. My sister was so tired, she simply lay on the floor and took a short nap. Note that the room rate includes dinner and breakfast. The stay was pleasant, and I would consider returning in the future if my travels take me to Yanagawa.

Stayed 10 days and will go back next yearWe were very satisfied with room and staff. Very limited English speakers exept on week end. Price of rooms increased on sat. night. Breakfast was included in price of room and is served in dining room. During our stay we had a different breakfast every day. All excellent. Room was "standard" Japanese style with tatami mats. View over the gardens was superb. Only negative is the bathtub in the room is very small. Did not try the. Large public bath. We are looking forwward to staying again.

Moden Onsen HotelThe front part of the hotel (reception and resturarnt) has been renovated with very chic modern design. The location is close to highway with large mall nearby. The rooms have not been upgraded but the staff are very nice with very reasonable pricing.
