Awesome beach front property!Very happy with our choice of stay in Pompano Beach. First time stay on Atlantic side and thoroughly enjoyed this beach front property. The lobby is undergoing remodeling but the temporary check-in was super easy to find. Our check-in experience was very pleasant and efficient, which I'm sure had some to do with John's personality. He made us feel at home away from home! Who doesn't want that type of experience and first impressions I believe can help set the tone. Taking early morning flights mean we typically arrive early for check-in but we are prepared to have to wait for our room to be ready and are okay with that. Although I do have to say that we've never had to wait until late in the day to get access to our room. Probably lots of luck but we do plan to wait and just mentally knowing that helps to be prepared for first day and types of activities. This time, luck was really on our side as my husband hadn't even unloaded our luggage yet and we got a call that our room was ready. We had a corner room on the 7th floor, room 7712. It wasn't an ocean front view but does have a wrap around balcony that provides a street front view (really not much to see than other resorts and plaza across the street) and minimal side view of the ocean. Minimal means having to stand at railing to look out and see a sliver view of the ocean. For me, I'm just happy to be on vacation and a nice location, clean room and comfortable mattress is what matters most. I have summarized my review below based upon resort, location and amenities. Location: Beach front resort (Atlantic side). All the resort staff we encountered were super positive and friendly. There is a plaza directly across the road, which includes one restaurant (Stingers bar), a couple of shops and one mini market where you can get Boars Head sandwich meat and cheese, and also prepared and made to order sandwiches. There are some other hot food items like subs, mac and cheese, fried chicken, chicken tenders and a few other items I can't remember. They had a good selection of cold beers, including IPAs. They also had wine; however, I didn't really look at the selection as I'm not of a wine drinker while on vacation. There is a street light right at the corner, which makes crossing a busy street very helpful. Yes, the road can be busy too as it's the main road traveling to town and to fort Lauderdale by the sea. We never had to wait more than 3-4 minutes to make a left hand turn during the busiest times of the day. Pool: There are two pools, which I would label one as the interior pool that is more sheltered on a windy day. The other pool is just steps away and has a view of the ocean; however, it is typically more windy because of the breeze off of the ocean. This pool is right next to the tiki bar so location can be great if you want to snag a drink or listen to some afternoon entertainment (guitar/singer). Since this was a visit during COVID-19 there was limited entertainment. Beach front: There was a nice breeze as Pompano Beach is on the Atlantic side. On a hot day the breeze is definitely a great thing to have. You can also rent cabana's and beach chairs directly on the resort breach front. We purchased cabana cards during the check-in process for a reduced rate. Never renting a cabana before, I wasn't sure if we like it or need it. On cool day's when the sun was out it was nice having the shelter from the ocean breeze. On hot day's it was ice to position your beach lounger for as much or as little sun as you wanted. The guys working the beach stand that offer beach equipment and water sports (kayak, jet ski's, etc.) were super pleasant as well. Restaurants: Lots of great restaurants nearby. Download the PaybyPhone app before you head out to eat as depending upon location you may need to pay for parking. The app is super easy to use but be sure to sign up for notifications so you get notified before your time runs out. Depending upon day and/or time there may be a time limit but if that happens let it run out and immediately afterwards start the parking process over. I listed our favorites below: 1. Tacocraft Taqueria and Tequila Bar - hands down the best guacamole and street taco's. Try the tropical fruit guacamole as it was delicious! They also have live music from 6:00-8:00 or 6:00-8:30pm; however, the time could have been different based upon COVID visit. Great service and superior food at a reasonable price. 2. Vinnie's: Italian restaurant with great appetizer specials, pizza, sandwiches, and pasta dishes. Indoor and out door seating with lots of TVs too so it's hits the mark as to the type of dining experience you are looking for. Service and food was top notch! 3. Season's 52: This is always a favorite of ours and all of our meals and been superb. It's a chain restaurant whose menu is based upon the season. My filet's have always been cooked to perfection and my husband who orders something new each time loves them all. They have great appetizers, salads and mini desserts in shot glasses so be sure to pace yourself for this type of dining experience. 4. Beach House: A lunch and dinner visit. Dinner experience wasn't good but manager corrected the issue. We loved the fact that service and food wasn't spot on as they are typically known. Our son and daughter-in-law love this place so we gave it another shot for lunch and our service and food was excellent this time. Great wine, beer and cocktail selection too. So good I'd visit again for another cocktail, appetizers and/or meal. Be sure to try the chicken wings! 5. Galuppi's: Outside patio bar that offers live music entertainment each night but on Friday and Saturday night bands. You can buy a band box table, which I liked so we could reserve a spot and go at our time instead of having to arrive early to get a table. Servers were excellent, which can make or break a dining experience. 6. Coconuts: Marina dining experience. Loved the outdoor dining experience. It's a popular place so you may want to make lunch and/or dinner reservations. We arrived shortly after 6:00pm. The place was almost full but we lucked out on getting a table on the patio. I'd recommend going during happy hour and sticking with cocktails, appetizers and dessert. Dinner is a little more expensive and we got full on appetizers, which we really loved. 7. Lucky Fish: Large tiki bar located near the pier. We walked along the beach front from the resort and thoroughly enjoyed our walk along the beach followed by an outdoor dining lunch experience. I just had the cheeseburger and fries but out of the 3 places I ordered this type of meal from, this was the only one I would recommend. My husband is a fish lover and he really liked his meal. One place we ate at that I didn't like was Mulligan's on Commercial Blvd. My husband had the king crab ($39.00) and said it was just okay. He also ordered a salad and it came after the meal. I had the burger and fries. As it was the most expensive burger and fries I ordered on this trip, I thought for sure it would be really good. Unfortunately, my burger was over cooked (medium well) and the taste was off. The fries were seasoned and in my opinion a cheaper type of fry. They did have DJ playing during our visit but unless you were there to dance (which we like to do) it's not a place to hang out for a talking dining experience. I may come back for music but not for cocktails or food. Activities: 1. Galuppi's out door bar with live music. Go on a Friday or Saturday night for band type of entertainment and reserve a band box table if you don't want to have to go early to get a free table. 2. Aruba's: We went for appetizers, cocktails and the live music. Out of a 10-night stay, we visited this place 6 nights for the live music entertainment. It's an indoor and outdoor place with ocean front view. Cocktails were okay but not excellent but we went for the live music and dancing. 3. Pier/light houses. Nice walk along the beach in the morning and afternoon. Good exercise too with a great view! 4. Jungle Queen River Boat Dinner Tour: Night cruise of the intercostal area. Grand homes and great commentating on history of houses and home owners. The dinner followed by live show is at an island location. It's all you can eat chicken, ribs, coleslaw, baked beans, fries and rolls. The chicken was dry but the ribs were the best I had on this trip and the most tender I've ever ordered out. It may be a low budget live show experience but it was a fun night out. It gave us a chance to see the homes on the intercostal at night. The only negative was the fact that it got dark too quickly and I would have liked for the tour to have started at 5:30pm instead of 6:00pm. A minor thing for me but just one to take into consideration of how you want to view the intercostal area. 5. Sport Fish charter by Fishing Charters: It's a big fish semi private charter that takes up to 6 guests. You are not guaranteed to catch anything so I'd highly recommend time of year for charter and also another tour company. We paid $150.00 each, which I sincerely regret. I'd go with another more experienced company that offers a better chance at catching trophy fish. We had a total of 5 on our tour and we only caught 3 large barracudas. Two of which were caught by a guy who had been on the morning tour and the other two bites to the same couple. We questioned the crew member but he blew us off and said that fishing at this time of year isn't good and he wanted to be sure that gal had a chance to redeem herself. Again, no consideration to the fact that we had not been given an opportunity yet. Terrible company and a total waste of time and money! Time of Year: We visited 1/29/21 through 2/8/21. Weather was in the low 70's the first couple of days but a low front came in and we had some low 50 degree weather with rain for a couple of days, which was not the norm for this time of year. The end of the week brought some some and upper 70's and low to mid 80's degree weather. We like the sun and warm weather so I'd probably schedule next visit between mid February through March. Again personal preference.
