New high standard hotel, but many of the on site facilities not yet opened

As I walked into the hotel lobby I was certainly surprised at what seemed to be, at least on the surface, a top rate resort. Surprised because this is a small town by Chinese standards, quite rural. I went to Wuyuan to spend a day in the quaint villages mentioned by several guidebooks. I'm wondering whether this hotel is another one of those aspiring 5-star(ish) resorts that will slowly fall into decay or go bust in a few years due to low occupancy rates. It just opened in February. There were very few guests staying in the hotel, it seemed the staff far outnumbered us guests. In any case, I got a good deal at 370 CNY including taxes for one night with Ctrip. The room was top-notch. Flatscreen (although no international channels except CCTV9). Spacious bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and there was free internet connection in the room. The room also had a safe. The staff spoke very little English (some Chinese knowledge needed to go to Wuyuan), but fell over themselves to do everything they could to help me, whether arranging transports or helping out with my computer problems. The Hotel is a little outside of town (no worries, nothing really to see in Wuyuan itself) and makes for a good base to explore the surrounding Qing dynasty villages (Sixi, Yancun, Xiao Likeng etc.). Breakfast was quite ok, even some choice of Western food such as bacon & egg, toast, coffee etc. Several of the on site facilities had not yet opened, such as the Sauna, Night Club, Swimming pool and fitness centre. Overall definitely worth the price.

High standard of hotel, but facilities closed

To echo the other review. This hotel is of a very good standard and the price I paid for this quality was exceptionally good. Being rather tired of Chinese mid-range hotels and arriving in Wuyuan at a ridiculous hour I decided to pay out and book this place in advance. The staff were very helpful, although they did show a slight look of terror when faced with a foreigner! Breakfast was good and enough western choices. The only restaurant open in the evening was their Chinese one - requires some understanding of not only Chinese food but characters in order to be able to read the menu. The hotel was very empty the first night though a few tour groups checked in the next night - probably that is why the price was so reasonable. The rooms are nicely appointed and in general the hotel is kept very clean. The carpet in the corridor is beginning to lift though and I suspect the building has not been built to the highest standard.

    Quiet, and clean

Stayed for 2 nights when we (16 friends) were touring the surrounding old villages. Big, well furnished clean rooms. Good breakfasts and a surprisingly good restaurant serving dishes of quality equivalent to the best of Shanghai City restaurants. Strongly recommend.
