Only the location saves it!If it was not right on China's Times Square, it would be a 3rd rate hotel at best (Chinese 2 star). Old, run down, dirty Chinese upper class hotel from the days of Mao. Old communist luxury is still OLD. Suite bedding was very nice, sheets fresh and clean. This would be a great place for an antique buyer to buy an entire lot of Chinese mid-60s luxury furniture with cracked finishes and age scars. Inventory would be endless! Breakfast is abysmal. Despite all photos indicating a pool, there is no pool!

A good stayBy taxi, between the airport and here, is around 25-30 minutes and very affordable. By metro it's 1 hour 20 minutes and 6 yuan. Being by a subway station was critical for me. This was great. From down below, I think exit A (don't quote me on this), then follow the signs. You walk out and there's a building on the left - that's the hotel. Keep curving left until you encounter the entrance. From the outside going in it's not marked. Make note that check-in is on the 7th floor. Basic English. All went well. I'd asked for a room high up, non-smoking. 18th floor seems a little nicer from the elevator's view - carpeting not tile the entire floor. There were ashtrays in the room, but there was no smell. They also put me at the end of the hallway so it was quiet. The only sounds I heard were from construction. (Unavoidable with all the work going on in the city.) There was a 'floor lobby' between the wings for those wanting to converse. My first reaction of the room was that it was small. Then I looked again and found it quite sufficient. It had the desk, bed, nightstand, dresser with tv on top, chair and bookcase, and it wasn't cramped; ample room to move around. I had a door to the tea area (actual loose tea, not tea bags), closet (this open area could be used as a dressing area) and the bathroom. The bathroom was fairly large and the hot water was immediate. This room had a bathtub. Slight carpet stains, minimal, and not as bad as most hotels. Internet worked well in the evenings, but not in the mornings. Oddly enough, one of my windows had a small but noticeable gap when closed. The closet had an auto light when opened. However, that door never closed all the way, leaving the light on. Made a nice nightlight, and had it become an issue I could have closed the door. Typical hard Chinese mattress. It was still a good visit and when you get a good deal, worth the price.

Location, few step to liberation monument, perdestrain street, metro line 2,We got what we requested, non smoking, quiet and high floor, most important the room was clean as we are allergic to dust and cigeratte smell. Location: few steps away to liberation monument, perdestrain street, metro line2, shopping centre, beside airport bus and west railway station bus. Food restaurant is everywhere, easy access public transportation.

Excellent location!Center of tourist area. We had a very large room with a living area complete with sofa set and a dining table. The room size was over 40m2. The view from the room was Pedestrian St. The downside: occasional foul smell in the bathroom and lack of security to the rooms.

Terrible serviceFirst of all, the description here claims that there is a pool here. That is not true. No pool. Second, the service here is just awful. The staff treats you like you are a burden. One of my colleagues was going to be charged an incredible amount because she got some makeup on a sheet. She ended up trying to wash it herself in the sink. Ridiculous. Also, some of the rooms are awful. When I first got here I was stuck in a room on the top floor that smelled like mothballs, with a window so small I had to kneel down to see out of it. You can't make this stuff up. The only plus is the location. The hotel is central to everything. If you decide to stay here after reading my review, at least you have been warned.
