Loved this quaint, genteel house built in 1904 with its old wood floors, staircase & mis-matched furnishings.

If you enjoy old homes with a bit of a quirky, historical feel, then you'll appreciate this place as much as I. It's more like a B&B than a hotel, which I loved, and all rooms have a private bath. It was extremely quiet, except for the old wood floors and staircase creaking a little now & then, which I enjoyed. Loved the old brass and crystal doorknobs. It's not perfect, but I found it charming and restful. The owners are very nice people, who tried to accommodate any requests. I met the nicest people in the restaurant who invited me to join their party of four. The food was incredible! I had filet mignon one night, pork tenderloin another, and both were delicious. Be sure to order the mashed potatoes if they're offered. Also, I'm not crazy about mushrooms, but Madisonville grows them locally and they are cooked and seasoned to perfection! The town even has an annual mushroom festival! The restaurant was full both Saturday nights I was there. Wonderful seated breakfast to order, and the buffet looked good, too. Great stopping point between DFW and Galveston for cruisers. I felt very safe as a solo female traveler.

    Beautiful place, good food

The place is really beautiful, it simple bring you back in some old times. Enterior is nice. Food is very good, specially soup. Coffee was also great. Personel is very, very kind. There were a bit confused, few of them going around and checking if all is fine. We do recommend a visit.

    Final stop

This is a period hotel and has to be seen as such. There are no lifts and the floors creak but this is all part of the charm. If you want to stay in a beautiful old boarding house full of antiques and historical interest then this is the place for you. If you want modern do not stay here as this is not what you will get. The owner is lovely and friendly and nothing is too much trouble for her. The room had vintage pieces of furniture and was like a step back in time to the old west. The complimentary breakfast is home cooked to order and served in a beautiful dining room. Parking is also available on site and free. I would stay in this hotel again in a heartbeat. Order the Rattlesnake ranch pecan french toast for breakfast it is divine!!

    Wonderful Experience

Absolutely one of the best places Ive ever stayed. We met with some of the family because it was a halfway location for all of us to exchange Christmas gifts and enjoy time together. The owner was so gracious and the breakfast was excellent. It was like going home.

Great Breakfast, Not So Great Stay

First the good: The new proprietor, Shammy, is a delightful lady with an interesting background who excels at cooking. Best pecan french toast ever! Food is definitely her thing. She plans to reopen the restaurant in February 2021 and add some Pakistani, Indian and Persian dishes to the menu. I bet it will be delicious! Now the not so good: None of the hotel wifi networks worked throughout our stay. We also didnt have hot water for 2 of our 4 night stay over the holidays nor the morning we checked out. As she does not stay on the property at night, I called Shammy the morning after no hot water in cold December and she said it was temperamental, had been fixed and was on...but it wasnt. She assured me it would be on that night; not wanting another unpleasant surprise, I asked for a backup plan. She said we could use the shower in a room on the other side of the house and she would have it cleaned. There was no hot water again that night so across the building I went to find the other room was dirty with a mask and plastic bag on the floor, odd personal linens in a ball and an unflushed toilet...but the shower water, in a stall surrounded by dark mildewed caulking, was hot. The next night we had hot water but not in the morning. I wouldnt stay there again but would return for a meal... Also, I didnt know before arriving it is considered haunted and was featured as such on a TV show. Not for me - and another reason I wouldnt stay again. If you enjoy that kind of thing, it felt plenty plausible.
