    Good location, rude owners!

The hotel is well located in the beautiful village. Room, amenable and light, we upgraded to a superior garden view room but the bathroom was tiny, with a very small shower cubicle. Enough room for only one person. The breakfast is good with plenty of choice, however the atmosphere is some what stuffy, not relaxed and many people whispered to each other rather than spoke. The music played over breakfast was classical which we felt was too formal for a holiday breakfast. I also echo the sentiments of one of the reviews below around the owners Marcus and Anja, we had a complaint around our half board food on the first evening and the service we received. Subsequently, we didnt receive an apology from Anja only a very defensive response, likened to a personal attack, however this was not the case at all as we had validated criticisms which we wanted to address. As a result we decided to abort our half board option and subsequently ate out in the hospitable establishments in the village, very reasonably priced too. Whilst this hotel also promotes sun loungers, we only spotted two at the rear of the garden, not particularly welcoming to encourage residents to relax in their accommodation surroundings. This hotel has so much potential, sadly for us the owners do not present the warm hospitable culture we have come to experience with other Inghams establishments. Whilst we would recommend a stay in beautiful Ruhpolding, we would suggest an alternative accommodation stay. I eagerly await the response from the owners, based on the above which Im sure will represent their personalities accordingly.

    Relaxed and restored

We spent a brilliant weeks holiday at this hotel from 13th-20th July. Ruhpolding is a very pretty and friendly town in a lovely area surrounded by mountains and alpine meadows. We found the hotel to be of a high standard. Our room was a classic room but was spacious with a seating area and good sized bathroom with a large rainforest shower. The room overlooked the main street with gorgeous views of the mountains beyond. We were never bothered by traffic or pedestrian noise. The hotel owners, Marcus and Anja were always very helpful and welcoming. Marcus is a tea Meister and during our stay we were treated to a delicious afternoon tea as well as a tea tasting session with Marcus, who proved to be both knowledgeable and hugely entertaining! No more tea bags for us!! We booked this holiday through Inghams and on our transfer from the airport to the hotel, we met a number of other couples. We all did our own thing but often bumped into each other as we travelled around the area or met up at meal times or for a drink, enjoying a chat about our experiences or bantering with Marcus and his lovely, very friendly but efficient staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. The area is stunningly beautiful and with the resort card, provided by the hotel giving free local transport on trains and buses as well as free use of ski lifts and entry to museums etc, it was so easy to get about and see so much without having to spend a penny! The icing on the cake however was the friendliness of the hotel. There was so much camaraderie not just from the staff but from the lovely guests we had the pleasure of getting to know. It is a holiday we shall treasure for a long time and we would go back at the drop of a hat.

    AverageHotel Wittelsbach

This hotel is average. The reception areas are ok but bland. The room is average with average furnishings ( and no fridge). Breakfast is maybe above average and Guillermo was our friendly and cheerful waiter. The area is really nice, Weitsee and Rothelmoos being highlights

A quality hotel in all respects.

We are just back from a weeks stay at Alpenhotel Wittelsbach. The hotel is well-positioned in the heart of Ruhpolding, its well-run, friendly and everything there is of a high standard. We had a Standard Double room, which was well-appointed with plenty of storage space (not always the case) and a large comfortable bed. The seating area and tea-making kit were bonuses. The bathroom, though small, was also well-appointed with a big shower cubicle, and a super shower. Our room (33) looked over the town (rather than the garden) but we had no problems with any noise. Breakfast was a comprehensive buffet, with small variations day to day. The quality and presentation of the food was excellent, with the buffet frequently replenished. Table service was good with used dishes cleared very quickly. If you are a tea drinker, this is the place for you, with a huge selection of teas on offer, all served as leaf tea in an infuser pot with a timer! The atmosphere in the breakfast room was friendly and welcoming. We cannot imagine that anyone could want anything more from their holiday breakfast! We were on half board so also had evening meals in the hotel. These were 4 courses, of excellent quality and different each day, always with 3 choices of main course. Marcus, from the family which own the hotel, was always on hand to ensure everything ran smoothly and to engage in conversation and light-hearted repartee with the guests, which certainly added to our enjoyment of the evenings. We have seen earlier reviews which have criticised the service or the atmosphere in the restaurant, and could not agree less. As Brits who frequently travel abroad, and make little effort to learn the language of the country we are visiting, we thoroughly appreciated that Marcus and all the staff at Wittelsbach could and did interact with us in English. And finally, to the Chiemgau Karte (resort card) provided as part of our holiday. What a boon! We used it for buses, trains, ski lifts, free bicycle hire for a day, and the brewery tour in Traunstein. All in all, we had a really enjoyable holiday just exploring locally using public transport, cycling and walking. We stay in a lot of hotels and can honestly say that Alpenhotel Wittelsbach is excellent we thoroughly recommend it.

    Delightful Bavarian Charm

A mix of modern and traditional, but with a definite Bavarian feel about the place. Immaculately clean and well presented. Staff were extremely professional, polite and helpful. Restaurant staff were especially attentive. Food quality was superb. The hotel was centrally located in this charming village/small town. Transport links were great as well as giving good access to the area. The hotel room was very comfortable, and although we overlooked the main thoroughfare, we were not disturbed even when sleeping with the window open. This is a hotel I would definitely recommend and would almost certainly return to if ever visiting the area again.
