Not a huge fan of this place..

I was in Hakone for sakura season and all of the hotels were either booked or super expensive, so I settled on Life Club Verde. First of all, this hotel is quite hard to find (as many things are in Hakone). The best way to get to the hotel if you dont speak Japanese if find your way to Yussessum (spelling this wrong - but the big water park). The red line bus stops here. Once you are at the water park, its a 5 minute walk behind the parking lot. Thankfully there are a few signs. The hotel itself looks quite old. The good thing is they have a decent gym, ping pong table, kids area and indoor pool. The onsen was a disappointment (esp for Hakone). Nothing to do at night, other than walk back to the water park for Italian food. Staff was friendly, but didnt speak English well. Rooms are spacious for Japanese standards. I think you are better off paying a bit more to stay in a nicer hotel/ryokan. MIght be good for families given all the facilities.

    Disappointing. Overpriced.

For JPY 30,000 a night I expected A LOT more than what I got. This price did not include breakfast nor did it include entry into Yunessun, the water park nearby, even though the hotel website had pictures of the water park in its advertising. I actually went there thinking it was part of the hotel complex. I did actually have second thoughts about staying there due to the price and almost cancelled, then I looked at the website again and thought that the park would be fun for the family. Egregious false advertising. When I did ask about breakfast, not only did they want to charge me per adult, they also told me I'd have to pay that amount ($15) for a three-year old child! Not even a child discount! Unbelievable. The building itself is tired and dated - charging that much a night you'd think they'd make an effort to modernise the common areas - the hallways were dark and dirty and the walls were covered in paint chips. Don't stay here unless you pay less that half of what I did. Absolutely not worth it.

Quite reasonable not withstanding some of the reviews

After reading the reviews, we were a bit concerned with our choice, but after our stay we wanted to be sure to post our own review. We were able to find the shuttle from the Gora Station to the hotel by asking at the information outside Gora Station. To get to the shuttle stop, you have to walk under the tram line and take a left up the hill a bit. The shuttle runs every 30 minutes, but not during the lunch hour. We ate at the Italian restaurant mentioned by other people, but the next day we found that the bus system is quite user friendly and accessed easily on foot about twice as far from the hotel as the Italian restaurant. While the desk staff at the hotel do not speak much English, they were able to help us navigate to the Italian restaurant and the bus stops. The room was the largest room we had in Japan, with a separate sitting area and bed area. We had a balcony and a great view of the mountains. The onsen was the only one we visited and I thought it was great. It had a number of different hot pools with various amounts of bubble, various shower-type installations, and a cold pool. It is true that if you don't pay for breakfast, there is nothing very close, but we had breakfast bars (from home) and fruit and there is a coffee machine in the lobby from which one can get a cup of coffee for 100 Yen.

    Rather...

Rather than being an inn or hotel, the place is like a rest facility. The building was old but clean. Even in the high season, you can use the hot springs and the spa, like your own home as there are no people. There is Yunessan nearby, and you can walk. It is located in the middle of Kowakudani station and Sculpture forest station.
