  Unhappy at the Winneshiek

  No longer the grand hotel. There are other chains hotels that are less expensive and not far from main. They Winneshiek cannot blame the lack of service on anything more than the changes in ownership.

  Top-of-the-line hotel

  This is a beautiful building. The location is very convenient to excellent restaurants and downtown shops. I am very particular about cleanliness wherever I stay and Hotel Winneshiek met and exceeded my expectations in cleanliness. Would definitely stay here again!

  I dont understand the high reviews

  We were here for 2 nights and had to change rooms 3 times. I am not a hotel snob by any means either. The building is beautiful but our first room had wallpaper literally falling off the wall - it had even been scotch taped in the bathroom area as a fix but that was coming down as well. It also faced Water Street and the noise from trucks driving by was horrible. The second day we asked to change rooms and they were very accommodating. The next room was beautiful and looked more like what was on the website. Spent the day in the room with no issue. Woke up at midnight to a strong smell of smoke (like electrical or rubber burning). The staff came to our room and couldnt figure out what to do -they couldnt find the source and asked us what we wanted to do. I asked for another room. So we moved to a third room in the middle of the night. Was not very comfortable going to sleep in a building wondering if we would get woken by fire trucks. We didnt thankfully, but we will not be staying here again.

  Great Hotel

  Great atmosphere and history. Friendly wait staff always willing to help with requests and recommendations. I have never had a bad experience there and travel to Decorah at least 3 times yearly on business.

  Nice

  Great location near Luther College. Hotel has 1-2 Pokémon gyms and three pokestops that you can hit from the hotel. Classy bar IF its open, Joel staff: nice and helpful. Easy location to find. Not super kid-friendly: its more....elegant.
