Beautiful place to stay during the winter.
Winkel Village is located very near the skiing resort. While we were there , it was snowing most of the time. We enjoyed the personal onsen very much. The cottage that we stay in were sparking clean. Winkle village is about 15 minutes drive away from JR Chikko train station. Winkle village provided us return transport to JR Chikko Station.

Nice snowy mountain view but .....Staying here 2 nights. Here's not-so-nice experiences with this hotel : 1. check in : On arrival day, we arrived at 12.40pm, and had to wait till 3pm for a check in. Strictly 3pm check in time !!!! Please take note ! 2. The room : I booked my accommodation via Agoda.com in July 2016, stating 4 adults and booked for a cottage with private spa. Paid approximately AUD1000 for 2 nights. I don't mind paying a bit more for a more comfortable stay and the stunning view. However.....upon check in, we have got a 1-bedroom condo FOR 2 PAX, and my 2 adult children have to lay out futon and sleep in the living hall, right next to the kitchen. It's not what I expect it to be. And, the carpet on living area smells bad and greasy. Descriptions on Agoda.com wasn't clear enough. It would be better to state clearly what kind of rooms or accommodations they have got to offer on their site. It's misleading in my opinion. 3. The outdoor Spa : The 'condo' comes with a private semi-outdoor bathtub. You may call it spa but it's as big as a bathtub. There is running hot water but I doubt it's natural spring water as I smelt chlorine. I can understand for safety reason a grilled window is installed at the spa area but that really spoiled the full view of snowy mountains. 4. Noises : Early morning...got woken up by noises like car sound, kids running on wooden floor in the room upstairs, people chatting. 5. Location of our condo : Right next to main road. Good experiences during our stay: 1. The view : The spa has got the view of snowy mountains and ski field, which is quite nice. That's the added feature of the room. 2. Functional kitchen: For us who like to eat plain and prepare our own meals. 3. Friendly staff Front desk staff are warm and friendly. Overall experience of our stay wasn't that good . 4 adults cramped into a tiny living space of 1 bedroom condo.

Nice experienceIt is a very nice accommodation, Each family/group got an individual house of accommodation. Nice and clean. Price is reasonable. Staff is very helpful, the only thing needs improvement is sleeping mattress. Not thick enough and therefore. Not as comfy. Easy access to ski area and lot of fun even you don't go to ski as you can play snow boat any where near the village

White worldWe stayed 4 nights just before Xmas last year. The snow started early November there and it made the whole scenery white. Temperature in the night fell to negative 5 Degrees Celcius or lower. Hot Spa 24 hrs running in our balcony helped to warm up at night.

A Bath With ViewWinkel Village is an accommodation complex in the town of Asarigawa Onsen, which could also be considered an outer suburb of Otaru. Its made up of condo type houses either with single or multiple accommodation units in each house. This is Japanese style so minimal furniture, sit on the floor and sleep on futon style beds. That said each unit is very well fitted out, the heating is excellent and all very cosy. Each has a small kitchen with all needed to cook full meals. Our unit which overlooked the Asari valley and across to the Asari ski field was great. For four people we had a separate bedroom and then 2 futons to make up in the living room for our 2 grown up sons at night. Worked OK for our family but I think next time I would try for a 2 bedroom unit. We also had a large balcony and our own Onsen. The Onsen was really an outdoor bath but filled with water from the real Onsen system and kept heated to 40 deg c plus. Sitting in it after a days skiing and looking across all the snow in the valley was one of the highlights. Theres not a lot in Asarigawa Onsen in regards to places to eat. Across the road from Winkel is the Classe Hotel which has a restaurant and Onsen. Otaru is only 15 minutes drive down the road with lots of restaurants, although we tended just to go to the nearest big supermarket about 5 minutes drive and cook/eat back in our house. The staff at Winkel are really great, very helpful and speak enough English to get by. The office has good info on the local area and sells some essentials such as beer. There is a small café behind the office which we didnt discover till the day we left. Would love to come back in the summer, as well as another winter visit.
