Delightful stayLovely Motel at the end of the main street in Rutherglen. Rooms exceptionally clean and well maintained. Very nice pool area and surrounding gardens. Staff always helpful and accommodating. Would highly recommend.

Intimidating and UnwelcomingI have stayed at this accomodation twice before (pre the current owners) it is very clean and tidy with a great pool and outdoor area, however this is sadly where the postives end... Due to the owners authoritarian style of running their business It is sterile and lacks any warmth or frendliness. The tone is set very early on at check in where banter and hospitality are replaced with Rules , Policies and regulations and dont you dare step out of line ! Not exactly the welcome I was expecting , I felt like a naughty school kid in the headmasters office . It feels like your everymove is constantly being watched by the many CCTV across the property and instead of feeling protected as a single female I felt intimidated and spied on. I would suggest the owners pack up and do some travelling of their own to discover what true Aussie hospitality looks like.

Proprietor searches children's roomWe booked two rooms. One for three children aged 14 and 15 (two girls, one boy - all good friends since pre-school). The children were back in their room after dinner in town. The proprietor - Max, rang the room asking if they had visitors in their room. He was told no, it was just the three of them. Max knew that we were still out to dinner. He claimed that he had seen two kids on the CCTV cameras head in the direction of the children's room. It was a dead-end so he thought they had visitors. He did not believe them when he was told no. So, he went to their room and told them - not asked them - that he was going to search their room. Max entered their room and proceeded to search, walking though the room out to the rear door, searching the courtyard, bathroom and demanding that my son, move aside so he could search the wardrobe. HOW DARE HE! Max's behaviour is totally und utterly unacceptable. Entering the room of three children who were paying guests at this establishment and invading their privacy is not ok - ever. The children had done absolutely noting to warrant such complete disrespect and intimidation. They were looking forward to a break after the horrible year. They wanted to watch movies, eat junk food, swim and just hang-out. They had not misbehaved or been impolite. This is disgusting and cowardly behaviour to take advantage of innocent children, when he knew that there were no adults present. Max and Sue have a strict no visitors policy, which they will tell you is for the benefit of their paying guests. I was a paying guest, with two rooms and this is how we are treated. They are evangelist in their pursuit of enforcing the no visitor policy but Max and Sue are bullies, who have lost sight of common human decency and kindness.

Nice motel. BUTI have stayed at the Wine Village a number of times and have always enjoyed the stay. Lovely rooms, big pool and great outdoor area. A good base to experience the wineries. However, when I stayed here recently, it was not a great experience at all. On check in, the owners had told us that they have had some negative experiences with some guests in the past and as a result have implemented a strict policy of no visitors. I would hazard a guess that most motels at one time or another would have the odd undesirable guest that they would have to deal with, so I understand that it would be frustrating at times running a motel. We also had friends staying at The Wine Village as well as at the nearby Touleries. Most of us are all in our fifties and I would consider sensible and responsible people. The first morning, three of us had organised to go for a bike ride and arranged for the other two to call past and collect me. This they did. It was 9.30 in the morning and I had my bike ready at the front of my room. As soon as they arrived we set off. They didnt come into my room and werent loud. The whole process would have taken perhaps a minute and we were on our way. Later that day, the owner complained about them being on his property and waking up other guests. Needless to say, from then on I rode to collect them at the Touleries for our morning rides. Another time we were, as a group, heading to some wineries in three cars. It was 41 degrees, so our friends called past to collect some of us. They drove on the property and didnt even get out of their cars, but were promptly asked to leave. One of the cars was picking up their children, aged in their twenties who were staying at the motel! At no stage did any of our friends come into our rooms, thus not wearing out the carpet or couches as the owner said to me, about non-guests visiting the motel. Seven of our group had never been to Rutherglen before and were astounded about the attitude of the owners. It was so over the top, and I was a little embarrassed having talked the region up to them. To be judged on the negative behaviours of a few individuals that have previously stayed at the motel was rather demeaning. If they think their behaviour is reasonable, then I would suggest they are in the wrong business. Ive travelled to over 70 countries and stayed in all types of accommodation, but struggle to recall ever copping this attitude, particularly when we were paying $180 a night. I certainly will be staying somewhere else next time Im in Rutherglen.

Comfy, handy, cleanFirst of all, the bed. It wasnt the usual hard and uncomfortable hotel/motel bed. It wasnt plush by my soft and cloud-like definition of heaven, but I slept comfortably nevertheless. That was good. The room was large. The TV huge. All the usual modern adornments were in our room, which was clean and in very good working order. Plenty of hot water. Quiet air conditioner. The location was good. Very close to the restaurants and coffee shops in the main business district. Recommended.
