  Budget friendly basic hotel near train station

  On a family trip we stayed over a weekend in what seemed to be an almost empty hotel. Presumably it is favored for business travelers during the week. The Wiking is conveniently located near the train station and offers a good breakfast. No wow factor here, but basic clean rooms with minimal service. (We slept late, and our room wasn't cleaned; one person seems to handle both the breakfast and the check out; the entire hotel is locked up at night without 24 hour service.)

  If you need to be in Henstedt-Ulzburg it's ok

  We were given a room facing the main road and it was very noisy all weekend. Our room seemed to be the worst on the floor (2nd floor) as it had loose cables on the outside, dirt on the carpet directly outside the door that was not cleaned up all weekend, mismatched door numbers (none of these things were visible along the corridor - only on the outside of our room). However, inside there was a newly fitted shower room (small room, but hot shower) and the beds were comfy but only one flatish pillow each. The bar downstairs was not open at night and as there were no refreshment making facilities in the rooms, you could not have a hot drink. There was nowhere close by to pop out and get one either - so that was disappointing. The breakfast was good quality, and the waitress was pleasant, but the coffee was luke warm and on the second morning so were the scrambled eggs and sausages. Plenty of bread and rolls, and cereals made up for the cool 'hot' food. Seemed to us like the owners didn't really care about the hotel.

  Descent, clean and fair

  We had just one night at the hotel. It represents typical German style and quality, all works fine and clean. A very decent and modest design but update during the years. The accompanying breakfast was plenty and a fine tasting coffee. The only downside was the missing hairdryer in the room - that would have given a extra dot.

  Low standard hotel

  A Hotel without a bar is not an hotel, it's a hostel... Really old standard in general and should have been refreshed for 10 y ago.. The breakfast was typical medium standard for a German hotel. Pay attention to the broken elevator...

  Adequate, nothing to rave about

  I had a twin room as a single, and it was as such quite large but two people would have had a merry dance getting past each other. The breakfast was adequate but not as varied as I have experienced in other German hotels. The hotel caters for coach groups whereas I was on an individual trip. I saw how quickly the coach group were organised into their rooms and their baggage handled which was obviously well practiced and smooth. Different strokes for different folks. It suited my needs as I was visiting friends in the area.
