    Nothing special

A small country house hotel, a few rooms in the main house, others outside in converted stables. A very small lounge in the main house. Very limited menu in the restaurant, we stayed 3 nights and the menu was the same each night. Only one veggie choice. The service was slow although the restaurant wasn't busy on any evening. The food was well presented and delicious but it was expensive and small portions. Overall staff in the hotel were very friendly and helpful. We had a classic double bedroom which was a good size. Nearby Bradford-on-Avon is a pretty place but extremely busy with traffic. A few cafes but not much else though.

Super stop in a lovely hotel

We stopped here for my Birthday and I honestly couldn't fault our stop. There were plenty of hand sanitisers around the place and all staff wore masks. We observed everything being wiped down methodically, so felt quite safe. The staff were extremely friendly, the food was excellent and the location was great. Rooms are spacious and well equipped with quirky touches, making it unique. We used the pool, you have to book an hour slot and then have the pool to yourself, which worked well with us.The only thing we noticed were the gardens needed a bit of tlc, this may have been due to the shutdown through Covid. The gardens would be a lovely feature if tidied up a bit.

    Great 2 night break

Lovely 2 night break in courtyard room. We were in room 17 which had a huge comfortable bed and was very spacious. Great bathroom with decent shower and plenty of hot water and good products. Room not serviced due to covid but tick lists provided and items replaced straightaway. Breakfast was delicious with good quality products and we even had fried bread and black pudding + a chopped up sausage to take back for our dog. In the room was a lovely treat box for our dog which included a tennis ball, bag of treats, poo bags and a meal from Lily's kitchen. A bed and water bowl was also provided. Dinner menu choice was rather small so we were glad to only stay for 2 nights, however food was well cooked and beautifully presented. The hake was delicious as was the fillet steak. My partner enjoyed the butternut squash ravioli. Great wine list and the gin bar was amazing. Bar staff made superb recommendations. Great field at the back for dog to run and plenty of poo bins available. Amazing sculptures and a fabulous sheep built from spark plugs and horse from cogs. Garden a little sad in parts but a difficult time for gardens as summer shrubs ending and needing cutting back. Overall a great visit and staff to be commended especially breakfast lady and male receptionist/barman. Thank you

    Weekend break

My husband and I booked in here because I have recently had brain surgery to remove an tumour and Im currently waiting to have a further brain operation so we thought it would be nice to get away without the children. On arrival we were greeted by a friendly young lady who showed us to our room and offered us the chance to book the swimming pool for our stay. The weather was awful so we met our friends at widbrooks sister hotel - the boathouse and had a coffee - which was very pleasant. We then headed into town and then eventually walked back to widbrook grange for pre drinks before dinner. The setting was lovely - querky little lounges with unusual objects that had been turned into functional pieces of furniture and a lovely gin bar. The room had a king size bed and a beautiful bath with a shower. We dined in the restaurant and the food was 5 star. The food was presented beautifully, we received great service and a welcoming atmosphere. That evening we went to our room and after about 30 mins we realised that water was coming in through the ceiling - dripping on my head in bed , on the bedside table and the electric radio. I was so worried the ceiling would fall on my already delicate head. Unfortunately the bar was shut downstairs and no one was about to help, I tried and emergency number three times but no answer. The bed was too heavy to move so the only option was to unplug the electric radio, use all the towels and find a large bowl to catch all the water and then sleep at the foot of the bed (not much sleep as the water was coming in quite heavy now). In the morning I was so tired as I only had about 2 hours sleep due the water coming and in and fear the ceiling might collapse. I went to reception to complain as I was so upset. However, I was greeted by a young man on reception that listened to me, apologised perfusly, came to look at the room and then kindly offered a very generous apology in the way of a voucher to use for another stay and to not pay for last nights room and dinner. My point of this review is that .... things often happen beyond peoples control but its how these situations are handled that are the key to great customer service. I have been through (and am still going to through) the worst year of my life with my brain tumour - however it was so refreshing this morning when someone said to me ... Im really sorry for what has happened with the room and I dont blame you for being very upset. Kindness goes such a long way and my husband and I are now looking forward to staying back a widbrook next year after my brain surgery. X
