Period family run hotel, good but with a few drawbacks. We spent 4 nights in this hotel with a dear friends wanting to visit the Eden Project and Lost Gardens of Heligan. Both very close to St Austell. The cheaper rooms were disappointing. Ours, on the second floor, was smallish but had a modern ensuite. Furniture basic. Our friends on the fourth floor was poor. An old bathroom, no lift and up a very narrow staircase. The floorboard above us were very squeaky. The bells from the next door church rang every quarter, but were silent at night. Staff were generally attentive and helpful with Andrew particularly so. He helped carry luggage up to the top of the house. There was evidence of staff shortages with, we understand, student staff having just returned to university. The pandemic was blamed for lack of service to the rooms. (Staff shortages might also have had an influence) Bins were full to overflowing, our bathroom got increasingly grubby and there were no cleaning cloths or cleaning products for us to use. We elected not to have towels changed for the four nights we spent there. I think we could have insisted of having our rooms serviced, but chose not to with the shortages. Car park secure, 25 metres,, just over the main road. Meals were generally good. Breakfasts varied and excellent. The small White restaurant was OK with period furniture, although service was often slow. Breakfasts were served in the lounge area which was comfortable, particularly for evening drinks as St Austell has little night life although a Wetherspoons is just a couple of hundred yards away. There were precious few alternative eateries. Despite these few shortcomings we would use it again as it proved to be good value for money when booked through a discount agency, and comfortable enough. Beds were excellent, and it was generally a quiet environment (apart from the squeaky boards). We enjoyed the visits but what weather, unbelievably awful!

A Pleasant stayI only stayed here for one night. The room was quite small but clean and comfortable. My evening meal was a delicious Sunday roast which was excellent value and highly recommended. Breakfast was also very good If you like walking, the hotel is a thirty minute stroll to Charlestown which is a nice little area to visit, and a short drive to the Eden project.

Very PleasantStayed here for 5 nights last week. The hotel is situated in the centre of St Austell and is easy to find. Our room was well-appointed and very comfortable. Staff were all very friendly and keen to help you make the most of.your stay. They gave out a pack which included a map and ideas for possible days out. Food was excellent. Home cooked and very decent portions! Would definitely recommend.

Very PleasantWe stayed for two nights. The rooms were clean and comfortable and ours appeared to have been recently refurbished. The staff were very friendly, courteous and helpful. There were plenty of options for breakfast and the food was very good. We used the restaurant one evening. There was a good choice of dishes and the food excellent. The table service in the bar/lounge area was very efficient. Covid restrictions obviously impacted our stay but these were well managed. I would stay here again if visiting the area.
