    Good hotel in Merano, Italy

This hotel initially looked as though work was required on it, but it actually was very good. The back of the hotel faces the river and a walkway which within a couple of minutes leads to the town. These rooms also have nice balconies. They also have free bicycles. Breakfast was reasonable and could be eaten in the garden.

    A step into the past

This is a very pleasant oldie worldie type hotel. It is a little old fashioned but totally charming. Large light rooms with nice bathrooms. We enjoyed a generous breakfast. And all the staff were very friendly. Just a few minutes walk to the city center, very convenient.

    Never again

A brief back ground, four of us traveling on motorbikes for two weeks in the Alps. Booked this on Hotels.com, photos looked good. We arrived in the town around tea time and went on line to fine out that the town of Merano is quite expensive to stay in, so as normal we went for middle of the road. When we arrived the first impression was good the Hotel !! was a old very large house with very limited parking small but well maintained gardens. Closer inspection was a different thing, the front door was the first clue ( were is the paint) inside we were greeted by the owner who came over as not being very friendly ( maybe he just didn't like bikers ) that ok. We went to our rooms on the way we noticed nothing had been painted in a long time the paint was flaking every were, The rooms were smelly and old the carpet had seen better days, our bathroom was like going back in time. One big thing I did not like was, when we arrived he asked us for our passports, quite normal, the next morning I find our four passports in a Pigeon hole in the main hall, not behind a desk or locked away, anyone could have lifted them, were would that have left us!!! My Friend booked it and on paying the owner told him the money had been taken from his card and their was another 40 town tax due, Ripped off... In two weeks we have stayed in Beautiful Hotels for less money, In fact I would not rate this as a Hotel at all, at best a very poor B&B. The only plus side I can tell you about is the staff he employed were all very friendly and well mannered.

    Never ever stay there !!!!

The owner/manager took our passports and usually we get them back immediately, he held them and then instead of handing them back to us or waiting till we passed by the office next time, he just left them in a pigeon hole in the main hall where anybody could have taken them by accident or deliberately. We booked and paid for twin beds online, the extremely weird, rude and totally unprofessional owner/manager basically told us when we got there after long day traveling that he would do nothing to accommodate us as booked. Only one towel in room even though they knew there was two of us, we had to walk down 5 levels to request and it arrived 20 mins later. No Air Conditioning. The front door gets locked at 11pm, after ringing bell we waited outside on step until the same owner/manager opened it to us. WiFi in this day and age is a basic given in a hotel, he has this complicated way of logging on and off and after a few hours he charges for it.....absolutely crazy To say that this is a hotel that time forgot would be misleading, its a place that maintenance and investment has forgotten. The only modern upgrades are the energy saving bulbs and flat screen TVs which are the size of a computer monitor. The place stinks and is falling apart. Very expensive for the complete lack of service, courtesy, professionalism, quality at 144/night. Never ever ever stay there. Its not 3 Star hotel, its a 0 Star hotel.

    Lovely old place

We had the privilege to get a large room with balcony and views of the river. Very very nice would love to stay there again. It's a short stroll along the river to the city centre. Breakfast was good.
