Amazing, we ate here twice in 2 days!

We loved this place so much, that we came back the next night and had dinner here again. The building is all wood, and cozy. Its beautiful. The salad bar was great! They had all sorts of pasta, and potato salads on it that were great. My Mom had the curry chicken with sesame seeds, it was wonderful. All 5 of us ordered something different and then shared. Everything was amazing. Try this place, you will not be sorry. No one there spoke english, but they were so sweet and helpful, that it did not matter. Great experience! See their website, and watch the video! http://www.wenger-alpenhof.at/

    Nice but touristic

We stayed a couple of days at Alpenhof, and had a nice time there. My main objection was that the village of Werfenweng is rather touristic: lots of loud music and other noise in the evening and lots of entertainment for the tourists everywhere, which for me destroys the mood of being close to nature in the mountains. The hotel went with this too: there was a large inflatable plastic castle next to the hotel, to amuse the kids. Also, opposite our room, on the other side of the road, there were brightly illuminated letters of the cable car and shops all night, so romantically watching the stars at night was not an option. On the other hand, the people of the hotel were very friendly, and the "wellness" below the hotel (which is free for guests!) was really great, although only open between three and seven. The building also was quite beautiful, with lots of wood everywhere The food in the restaurant in the evening is not my taste, but I think most people will like it. The breakfast I liked. One other small thing: there was no wifi in the room, just on the ground floor. This was clearly advertised, but still a minor annoyance.

    Warm and Friendly

We stayed here over a long weekend before the snow fall and the Hotel was the only one open in the village .Ideally located if you are a skier with the chairlifts just across the road and a nice array of ski shops which open in season .Our Travel company Newmarket Travel relocated us 1 hour away from Salzburg which was not at all handy .But we thoroughly enjoyed the hotel. The rooms are very clean and tidy but the Televisions channels are all in German, there is a hairdryer provided but no kettle (which is fairly standard on the continent) no toiletries in the bathroom or telephone . We were on the 1st floor with a balcony overlooking the ski lift... Wi fi was available and we had no trouble accessing it . There is a very good continental buffet for breakfast and the cooking is excellent in the evening albeit on a very restricted menu .....Ideal for skiers but not good for touring Salzburg It is good value for money if you are on a budget

    One night stopover

We only needed a one night stopover on the way through Austria and we were looking for something different from our usual town centre hotels. This one was only 10 minutes off the motorway and set in a pretty Alpine village that were it not for the month of June, would be busy with skiers. The cable car is actually opposite this hotel, We were able to park right outside, and were welcomed by our lovely hostess. The room was very spacious and spotlessly clean with views over the vally to the distant mountains. We were on the side of the hotel, and consequently it was very quiet. There was an outside terrace/verandah with a table and chairs. There was only a handful of guests at the time of our stay, and disappointingly the restaurant (which had good reviews) was closed for the evening. There is a small restaurant nearby called Chili which is ok. The bathroom, whilst clean, and of adequate size, was poorly lit and had brown tiling giving an overall gloomy sensation. Don't let this put you off! We wanted to get away early and wanted to check out at 08h00, but the hostess was shocked that we didn't want to take up the inclusive breakfast. Despite our insistence, she put some rolls, ham and fruit in a bag for us for later! What a nice touch. This is a family owned hotel, and deserves to do well.

Decent overnight stop on a rainy day

My wife and I stopped here for one night. It was after a very long drive on miserably crowded highways in a cold and rainy day, so perhaps this experience clouded our overall impression of the hotel. Located at the center of a pleasant mountain village, Wenger Alpenhof was the quintessential alpine accommodation; lots of wood decor, plants on the balcony, impeccably kept lawn, etc. The interior was a bit more worn, but also well maintained and clean. Friendly check-in, English no problem. Room was a bit of a let down, with a square table and two small chairs in the corner, a small tv on the table at a 45-degree angle. Balcony overlooking a large playground (we were happy it rained, as it must be very noisy on a clear day). The bathroom was quite small and the shower over the tub barely big enough to turn around, but otherwise ok. In-room internet was pretty much useless (couldn't even check emails, and hopelessly slow to do online check-in), but it worked better in the restaurant. Breakfast, which cost 8.00 per person, was so-so. A small selection of cheese and salami, some bread and sweet pastries, and some apples and oranges. Coffee was good, and we also asked if they could make us a fried egg; they did. I think it's a more suitable place for a holiday-style stay. The cable car is directly across from the building, there is a range of outdoor activities in the vicinity advertised in and bookable through the hotel, so it appears that there is plenty to do. We had a different kind of stay, just an overnight to rest along a long drive, and for that this hotel was ok but not more than ok.
