Old world charm - in need of renovationWe stayed at this hotel for 2 night. It was a family trip and we had booked 2 rooms. The rooms were big with huge windows and old furniture with old wooden floors. The TV however was an LCD ;-) The place is really good but is in need of some serious TLC. We booked the Delux rooms in the main palace/complex they also have Cottages which are located slightly above the main hotel. The cottages though small have excellent view of the valley. One of the rooms we stayed in was renovated with new upholstry and polished floors. The other one badly need the floor to be fixed. Some nails were poking out of the floor and since we had 5 year old kids running around, it was a major concern. After running around the manager and finally shouting at them they finally covered the floor with carpet. The bathrooms/toilets badly need renovation . I agree you are offering old world charm but that is one place were we do not need it ;-) The fittings were old and leaking. The food was pretty decent. They also offer horse riding which the kids loved. They also have golf carts that take you to Fearhill Place which is just 10 mins walk . The staff is a bit layed back. and could do some pepping up. The stay was good except for the leaking loo:_( btw some rooms were smalled than the ones we got.

Very old but a good experienceAgree with the previous reviewer - Regency Villas is very old and in need of renovation. It was actually pretty cool to stay in such an old place - it was like stepping back in time 100 years. For us it worked out really well as our driver first took us to a hotel right in town that didn't look very good and was really expensive. After explaining that we had hoped to stay out in the hills (the whole reason to go to Ooty!), he took us to Regency Villas. As it turned out, we were offered a *huge* room for less than the hotel in town - I think we paid 2475 INR in the end, which I thought was good value for Ooty. Note that breakfast, dinner, etc is only available at the neighbouring "Fernhill Palace" - a 5 - 10 minute walk from Regency Villas. Overall we were very happy with our stay.

Excellent retreat tucked in the blue mountains!Last Eid ul fitr, my brother & I decided to take the family to a Hill Station since we assembled in Bangalore. We carefully chose Regency Villas and drove down from Bangalore, via Mysore and the adventurous jungles of Bandipur Tiger Reserve; which was a shorter route to Ooty with N number of Hairpin bends and view of beautiful nilgiris all throughout, very scenic. Regency Villas are located a short walk away from Fern Hill Palace Hotel, another beautiful Heritage Hotel in the Blue Mountains. We booked three rooms and I promise you, as you enter these rooms; you go back to the yesteryear's of erstwhile British India and appreciate the detailing on beds, bathrooms and even coat hangers & you may get confused thinking this place is in Scotland! Meal arrangements were made at Fern Hill Palace and we enjoyed our Golf Cart Ride going from our small classic retreat to the Big Palace hotel. Though I preferred to walk and at nights & often got into the character of Prof. John Nash, thinking three people are always walking along with me in the dark! Regency Villas are tastefully done, though a bit dated and some folks might even freak out, but that's the idea...adventure, relaxation and lots of laughter. Though I believe if you are not in a group, there may be chances that you may shiver a little bit. LOL :) Staff serving us were efficient, our beds were historic yet comfortable, rooms were neat and clean, evening tea outside our rooms overlooking the garden and the mountain ranges was a delight and definitely, a great family reunion. It has a big patch of well-designed walk way with large number of trees on both sides; giving a feeling of a park avenue; very romantic. This is not a place for stags or you might get bored! I recommend this beautiful and photogenic Villas to all you folks who would like to stay away from hustle-bustle of the Mall Road and look forward to spending some quality time with your family or your significant other, apart from enjoying the great views and ever-romantic weather of Ooty!
