Beautiful quiet guest housePeter and Jay and wee Morgan shared their home with us. Meals are available at a very reasonable cost and are a simple tasty Jamaican experience. A perfect setting to relax and enjoy the view, swim and mingle with great new friends also enjoying the tranquility. We met some really interesting people from different backgrounds and we heard great stories. Peter picked coconuts for all of us one morning and gave us a real island welcome. Yes, transportation is a very big issue. If you dont rent a car expect at least 40$ to an average restaurant and a 60$ meal so dining is expensive . We had two transportation problems with missed pickups which were troubling and added cost.

QHaving booked online at around £60 per night for a deluxe ensuite room compared with double that price elsewhere we were apprehensive when we arrived as well as off colour from 24 hours travelling. Jay checked us in and the hotel was attractive with a tropical garden in front and stunning sea views at the rear. Our room was huge with good quality furniture and fittings, an effective AC unit, large flat screen TV, Comfortable super king sized bed, a curved multi window aspect looking straight out to sea and a large bathroom with spa tub bath and overhead shower. After unpacking we wandered across the road to the Island Spice restaurant which is a predominantly a take out place offering Jamaican food. Their menu was in Jamaican dollars and we only had US dollars so we headed back to Waters Edge to decide what to do. Peter intercepted us to welcome us to his hotel and asked if we needed help with anything. When we explained our need for local currency he told us where the nearest bank was and offered to either flag down a route taxi or take us himself without charge. This welcome and kindness changed our generally positive but slightly mixed first opinion to us being completely satisfied with our choice. Peter and Jay and their staff continued to be both friendly and kind throughout our ten day stay balancing the commercial needs of running a business with some complimentary items such as our first coffee and later kayak hire. We had a fantastic holiday exploring the entire North West corner of the Island returning to the peace and tranquillity of Waters Edge in between trips out. We took full advantage of the large decking extending out over the bay relaxing on Sun Loungers and most days snorkled directly off the patio. In the evening we watched the sunset looking out across the Caribbean. Would we stay again? Absolutely! Peter is constantly upgrading and maintaining the hotel with a deck extension underway while we were there. He is careful to avoid disturbing guests and we found it fascinating watching the progress. There are a few points to be aware of. Electric sockets (here and elsewhere in Jamaica) are limited compared with what we expect at home and there were only two doubles in our huge room although this was enough. Water pressure was OK for our shower but would have taken ages to fill the deep bath. The room rate is very good value so all meals, drinks, safe and fridge hire are extra. Ice is provided free along with a bucket. There is no beach with shallow water reaching right up to the hotel walls and steps down. You step out onto a very small area of clear sand which leads onto sea grass covered areas and rocks before you reach a deeper channel at the end of the decking. The closest sandy beaches of any size are at Montego Bay and Negril. Transport is essential really. We hired a scooter from Fantasy Crafts in Montego Bay. Most people hire a car. Locals are courteous and considerate drivers (except in rush hour) but drive like lunatics overtaking on blind corners. Taxis are expensive although cheaper if booked through Peter. Route (shared) taxis are incredibly cheap and pass the hotel in both directions every few minutes. If you are staying in a resort hotel and eating in tourist restaurants US dollars are all you need. If you want to use local restaurants and bars get some local currency to avoid random exchange rates being used. Supermarkets and petrol stations use local currency but will take US dollars. One final thing is to understand Jamaica have lots of rules although many of them are ignored....... We found it quite disturbingly when we checked in to have to read and sign an eight page hotel rules document. When we got to the supermarket and had to leave our bags with security and couldn't take the trolley out to the car park we understood the whole rule thing a bit better. It's just an example of cultural differences and we got over it!

WONT BE STAYING HERE AGAINMy husband and I stayed there for a week, there were people talking in the hall way in the night waking us up, a baby crying that belongs to the owner or whoever she is. Each time we took a shower the bathroom flooded. No one was really there to assist you when you need something from the kitchen. There was also a housekeeper who would always stare even when she came to the room she would break her neck to look inside our room. The room was spacious Ill give them that! Construction still being done on the deck while youre there. Also dont expect any food whatsoever.

Bad businessDon't go there guys. The operators are unreasonable. We had to cancel our wedding at the venue due to COVID 19 and we were unable to get back even a dollar. They had no consideration. All they said was that we signed a contract.

Bad BusinessOn March 1 2020 before the Covid19 lockdown, we paid $28000 for an event. We were given this receipt by the owners and told to pay balance 2 weeks before the event. 3 month later in the midst of covid lockdown we were sent an email with a contract we had never seen saying our money is non refundable. We contacted the owners and ask if the money could therefore be used to discount accommodations in the future and they said no. They are inconsiderate and care little for people during this pandemic chaos. Our experience doing business with them is poor.
