  Would stay again

  The hotel was very clean and pleasant looking, the room was a decent size and the view of the lake was lovely. The hotels breakfast options were varied and delicious as was the dinner in the restaurant. The staff were welcoming and friendly.

  Lakeside Luxur

  This was our first stay at the Waterhead. We found it by chance. Our two previous accommodation bookings were cancelled leading up to our stay in Ambleside. It was a special birthday treat for a special birthday (my 65th). We were so pleased to have found this hotel. A very warm welcome upon arrival. We received a room upgrade. Our room was spacious, well appointed and very clean. Dinner on the first evening was excellent. A good menu choice, great food (and wine) and brilliant service. Breakfast was really good too. Sat in a window location looking across the lake. Blissful. My wife and I will be back I am sure.

  A Happy Christmas!

  As we were not allowed to go to a warmer country for Christmas we decided to head for The Lakes and chose The Waterhead 3 day Christmas break. The hotel is in a great location, only a 15 or 20 minute stroll into Ambleside and right by the steamer pier. On arrival we were offered a mug of mulled wine and a mince pie and with afternoon tea we had 3 different champagnes to taste. Christmas Eve dinner started with a complimentary gin and tonic and Christmas Day breakfast started with a bucks fizz. Our room had a lake view on two sides and was warm, comfortable and well equipped, even down to underfloor heating in the bathroom. The wifi is reliable and free. Private parking is under the hotel or at the front. There is no lift and the stairs are pretty steep. All of the staff were excellent and made it clear that nothing was too much trouble; our special thanks go to Alex the Food and Beverage Manager. Our only slight disappointment was the food which, to us, was not up to the very high standard of the hotel and staff. The hotel felt very Covid safe and well organised; to provide safe spacing they had reduced the number of guests by nearly 50% from 'normal' years. Because of the foul weather on Boxing Day we took our complimentary Steamer cruise on the Sunday morning. Thank you to all at The Waterhead; we enjoyed our Christmas with you and we wish you all a very Happy New Year.

  Amazing Christmas Break

  We booked to stay at the waterhead hotel after a recommendation from a friend in the Lakes. It was a late booking but they were able to accommodate us. The staff were amazing, we were upgraded on arrival to one of the Lake view rooms. The room was fantastic, very clean and the bed was one of the most comfortable hotel beds I have had. Service was so efficient, breakfast times were booked and it was all very smooth and organised. We ate in the restaurant one night and the food was amazing and reasonably priced. We will definitely be booking to return next year to this wonderful hotel.

  Disappointing

  We arrived 27th December 2020 greeted by Simone who is always amazing and welcoming. We then proceeded downstairs to the bar as our wasnt ready (not a problem) to be pounced on by member of staff who told my husband after being served drinks that we have to have a substantial meal each, and also asked me if I had checked to the track and trace app and basically stood over me, we reluctantly order 2 meals one one a club sandwich which was fab, I ordered being rushed again a Cesar salad which was basically a chopped up iceberg lettuce with with 6shrimps on it. After staying in the hotel 5 times in 2019 it just wasnt the same experience. Please do not think that Is in any way disrespectful to the hotel. We just felt we needed air our our views.
