Heritage & hospitality aplentySpent 2 days in great Walhalla location in the historic star hotel. Continental breakfast and a la carte dinner package was full of fresh vegetables and tasty food. Rooms were spacious with terrific high ceilings. Management provided fascinating historical context and great advice on walks. Highly recommend this place to stay.

Over priced and dishonestAdvertised on booking.com at $365 per night with 2 course meal and breakfast, no cancelation. Phoned to confirm that this was correct and asked if it was the same as their website, the answer from Michael was yes it was, he lied their website advertised at $290 per night for exactly the same thing. I phoned to check this and he laughed at me, had no choice but to go for the night as l could not cancel. Room is average, overhead fan would not turn off, bathroom and shower is poor. Meal was ok, desert was poor, service was average. The breakfast is continental only. Seriously for $365 per night dont go there its not worth it and they are dishonest.

A brilliant slice of Australian historyWe visited Walhalla as part of a road trip through regional Victoria and it was a brilliant location. The town is a slice of history that has been lovingly restored and maintained with strict heritage guidelines and it is nestled in a beautiful gorge that is surrounded by wilderness. The drive into the town is incredible and there is plenty to explore when you are there. We stayed at the lovingly restored Star Hotel and we loved it. Michael and Russell were fabulous hosts and were eager to share their knowledge and history of the town and the hotel. The room was huge and very comfortable and we were able to sit out on the upstairs balcony and take in the magnificent surroundings and soak up the history of the place. We had dinner in the hotel dining room on 2 nights and it was impressive food served with with very friendly service. My only gripe was the very small shower in our bathroom - not too flash for a 183cm bloke! Overall we loved our stay at this place and will definitely come back here.

A lovely place to stay in a gorgeous townMy partner and I just spent a Saturday night at the Star Hotel and loved it. We booked the "Value Dinner Bed and Breakfast Non-refundable" rate. The only thing I must mention is that when they ask your dietary requirements (actually before you even go) tell them everything you don't like - I mistakenly assumed it was just allergies and things like vegetarian that they wanted to know, but at the table we were advised our dinner was roast pork and panna cotta, and I don't like pork. They did then offer me corn beef instead so I had that, but do advise all the things you won't eat before going so you get a dinner that you will eat. But having said that, I loved this place. The room was spacious, spotless, has air-con plus ceiling fan, is walkable distance to everywhere in town and opposite the steps to the tram walk, has an awesome dog!, and a room with lots of mags and books but we never got time to use that. I found the place very quiet. We had a king room upstairs. I was happy to be upstairs as no footsteps above you (but I don't know if you would hear that if downstairs anyway), but we wished we had put in a preference of street-side just for the view, you can put in requests but of course they can't guarantee a certain room, but I still loved the room. We were in the Grey Horse room. There is a table upstairs in the hall and downstairs in the lounge with free tea & coffee and bikkies, and with wine & choccies that you fill out a form to buy. All nice touches. Oh and they are RIGHT on top of the covid safety practices. Breaky is a buffet of cereals, little tubs of fruit and of yoghurt, toast and pasties, and of course tea and coffee.

Great spot to escape the worldPeace & Serenity in a wonderful valley with the Star hotel being the highlight. Great rooms and facilities, would highly recommend for couples to take in history, food, wine & a great nights sleep. Clean and very comfortable with very attentive hosts.
