  Very nice

  Hi I just stayed there with and English group. The place is great. Staff are friendly. The lovely girl on reception speaks very good English with the cutest Yorkshire accent. I would highly recommend this for a stay. Even better if your a walker or cyclist Many thanks waldhotel

  A low quality hotel in a stunning surrouding

  The hotel is located in the edge of a nice town, in a place surrounded by a charming nature, with river flowing, walking trail and nice romantic flora. In the front desk of the hotel, you can find pleasant staff. Still the hotel is disappointing and does not look like a 3 star hotel. The basic rooms are very bad maintained, (one room with no light, another room with no water in the tap and so on). old mattresses which sag too much. Not anough frash air in the internal space of the hotel. The breakfast is very poor, with bread which is not fresh enough anf fruits that are partially not good enough for eating. I was suprised to find a hotel with such a great potential, conducted in a low quality.

  A warm heart

  We booked in here at the last minute in July to escape a flooded tent. We worried on booking that it seemed too good to be true at a very good price but there was no catch. It was very friendly, clean and our inter-connected family room, big enough for a family of 5 with huge comfortable beds was a joy. The location is wonderful, deep in the woods like the setting of a fairytale, with the mountain stream cascading down the hill outside. The food is hearty, authentic for the area and the breakfast especially was great. The region is beautiful and we had a very restful two days in the Herz mountains. The highlight for us was getting the hotel swimming pool to ourselves for a whole morning (while all the other guests were out hiking I guess!). The kids has a fantastic time, and so did we.

  Nice location, mediocre hotel

  The good: Very beautiful location in the woods, at the banks of the Ilse river beneath the Brocken mountain. The bad: Wifi only at the front desk, but when I visited, it did not work at all. No mobile reception, either. Staff was inattentive, lacking friendliness. The ugly: My room was very basic, without any charm. My bathroom was spartan. The hallways were stuffy and the interior felt dated and in need of renovation to me. Breakfast quality was only okay-ish. Essentially, booking this hotel makes sense if you are willing to sacrifice all other concerns for an especially beautiful and tranquil location.

  Nice place, but could use an overhaul!

  We stayed here in early August 2014 for one night. The place has a very cozy and nice atmosphere, although the rooms reminded us of a retirement home. They could use an overhaul. They advertise with free wifi. We got a voucher in the reception, but did not find any wifi coverage anywhere on the premises! Another guest was told that "people do not come to work here, they come to rest!" - living in Germany I found this a bit amusing, because I am familiar with the rudeness, but I do not think he found it amusing! Rooms have tv and the breakfast in the restaurant is complimentary. It offers a great variety of food and is quite alright! We had dinner at night, and this is the only negative note: The waiters were extremely busy and very inattentive. We asked for anything several times, which is annoying when you are sitting with a small child. All in all this was only an average experience, but if you come to hike in the area (which is supposed to be great!) this might just be the right place to sleep!
