Superb Sea View & Sunset - all at once!

We visited Kada for the first time in July 2017. I'd recommend that you reserve the hotel's shuttle van as it was a bit far to walk from Kada station to the hotel. However outside the train station in the Annai (information centre/ leaflet rack) there is a drawn map showing what to see during your walk (a few shrines, a river, some mini-stores and local restaurants) so if you are carrying light luggage you can also consider walking. Staff at the reception desk couldn't speak any English. There was a younger man who could speak a little bit but don't worry - they have print-out maps for your reference like all the other ryokans do. - the lady's bath was under maintenance at the time we visited... (otherwise it's absolutely a 5-star) BUT the room was superb! Our plan includes only a random room but it was ALL SEA VIEW!! Which absolutely wow-ed me and we LOVED it! I think it's because then was a low season as we only met 2 other families in the restaurant. The hotel offered a shuttle bus until 9pm to and from Osaka-ya Hiina no Yu which is just next to Kaigetsu for the ladies to take bath but I just skipped the hassles and stayed in Kaigetsu. They have quite some nice choices of yukata and obi as well :) We walked around and tried the milk (freshly made in the farm) and hayasushi from the store in lobby and they definitely worth a try! Dinner and breakfast were great with nice view from their restaurants. And YOU CANNOT MISS THE SUNSET!! Room was clean, tidy, spacious, quiet and comfortable. In short - we will visit again :)

Nice ryokan in a quiet town.

I spent 2 night here on a solo getaway, was happy overall. They provided pickup/dropoff shuttle bus to the local train station and staff were polite and helpful. Breakfast was the standard ryokan style meal. I just wish the hotel provided proper wifi instead of relying on the Wakayama free wifi provided by the prefecture! Just be aware that there are no convenience stores or proper supermarkets in Kada so stock up on your favourite drinks and snacks before you come as the closest conbini is in the next town over and not easily accessible! Room size is generous and this ryokan also has a shower in the room which is good.

    Fantastic Spot but Come Prepared

The official name of this place it the Wakayama Kada Hot Springs Kada Kaigetsu. It used to be called something different but this is the current name. Ok, first some of the issues with the location. When the hotel says they will pick you up from station, that is the Kada Train station. Do not mistake this with the Wakayama JR Line station or the Wakayama-shi station if you are coming from Osaka. We were surprised to find that in the off season the entire town pretty much shuts down. I assume during the summer months it's hopping but at the end of October it was super quiet. There are almost no restaurants open, definitely no convenience stores and pretty much no where to eat. Unless you buy into the half board of the hotel, which we found to be very expensive, you are on your own. Having said that, you can get into breakfast for Y2100 and diner for Y6500 per person but that was more than we wanted to pay. The first night we were wandering around town looking for a place that was open and found a place (I believe it's called the ABC restaurant) that was literally closing their gates. This was 5:45 pm. They were kind enough to feed us and for that I give them high marks and would definitely recommend them. Nice couple and the food is good and cheap. The next day we ended up taking a train up 4 stops and finding a 7-11 that had prepackaged meals, etc. so we stocked up there on things to last for a few meals. You can find a place or two that might be open but it is hit or miss so it you want to take your chances...........Also, bring a book because the wifi in the hotel is the Wakayama Free WIFI which cuts out every 15 minutes. Ok, now for the good stuff. If you are looking for a quiet break from the city this is really ideal. We got a 3 person Japanese room, ocean front. Fantastic view. If you have a family or a group the family rooms are spectacular and have wonderful views. There is an on sen (hot bath) that overlooks the ocean. Very relaxing, beautiful view and quiet. English with most of the staff is very limited (understandably so) as this is a very Japanese hotel but they do try their best. The area in front of the hotel was hit by either a tsunami or an earthquake and the road in front has been blocked off to traffic. Walking is still possible and it makes for a great evening stroll. In the evenings, if you look close enough around sunset you can see a school of dolphins swimming from the navigation buoy on the left side of the bay towards the harbour. Some nights they we very active and others not so much but watching them from the on sen was a treat. Overall a great spot to chill for a few days but think about bringing some of you own supplies.

    Good value half board

We rent a car from Osaka airport, take around 1:15 hr to there, facing Pacific Ocean, very nice. Breakfast and dinner also nice. Its really good value. Highly recommended Pictures show 2 nights dinner and breakfast.

    Though...

Though the hot spring view is awesome, they seem give different services between Japanese and foreigners. The reception staffs guided Japanese customers to their rooms as typical Japanese onsen hotel service, while they just gave the key to foreign customers and did not give "" (guidance).
