a B&B gemexcellent stay, huge newly renovated rooms, nice breakfast, friendly hotel manager, large parking area, local pizzeria only a few kilometers away with the best pizza ever! (very reasonable prices as well...), superb value for your money, it's a ways off from Mantua (Mantova) but it's definitly worth the visit

volivia relaisWe have not visited all of the hotels in the Mantova area, but this must be among the very best. The accommodation is a mix of old beamed ceilings and modern facilities. The rooms are spacy and the beds comfortable. Headed by Chiara, the family staff are pleasant, obliging and were especially kind to my wife who is disabled. The breakfast is continental with the added attraction so mama's scrumptious home-made tarts and cakes. Ample parking. Highly recommended. We shall visit again.

Lovely locationThe hotel was for one night. It is in a lovely rural area. The service at the hotel is good and quick. To be fair the hotel didn't appear to busy at the time. The rooms are really nice with shuttered Windows, stone doors and three separate rooms. There was no air con which was not good as it was so warm. Also there are no tea facilities in the room. With no bar area it's water or nothing. Dinner is not served and as the hotel is remote you must drive out somewhere. Sadly the local pizzerias were shut on a monday so it was a trip to the supermarket for me. Breakfast was standard Italian fare and very nice. WiFi was available in the room and was a usable speed.

Good and Not so GoodThis is an interesting hotel. It appears to be new, but made to look old. They speak a little english, but not much. However, we are in Italy. We should have learned Italian before traveling to Italy so I never blame anyone for not knowing English. The good. Aesthetically pretty. There is a lift, no need to lug your bags up the steps. Large rooms with nice bathroom. The not so good is totally dependant on your perspective, so my not so goods may not even be a concern for some. Everything is automated and controlled. I wondered if we were in a bad area the way everything was locked up. This was just a stopping point for us between Tuscany and Verona, so we were not staying more than one night. If you want something you have to go to the office window (locked) and get them to open up for you to ask. If you want ice, they have to unlock the kitchen to check (they didn't have ice by the way, however that is not unusual for Europe). If you want to use the free wifi, you have to ask them for the code and they will generate one for you from some machine that gives you a receipt with a user name and password that you will need to log in. If you have more than one device, you will need a receipt for each device. We had 2 rooms with 4 people each of us with a phone and one person with an ipad. When we asked for the user name and password we were given one, when we asked for 3 more, we got the feeling that it was either an inconvenience or costly. (Again, just our perception). After that, we did not even ask for one for the iPad. It does not appear like there is much around here so I am not sure why such tight security on the wifi. Then there is the room. It was very pretty, and large. There is a strange black box by the door that looks like the old computer server rooms (back when servers needed their own area with dark glass and air conditioning). I believe this was the brain for the "smart room". Remember back in the 2000's where some hotels went "high tech" or "green" and put systems in where you had to put the room key in and leave it in to get the lights to come on? Well, this is what they are using here. You need to put your key in to get the lights on. No big deal and props for going green, except you only get one room key so if your spouse needs to run out to the car, they need to take the card with them to get back in the front door. Therefore, you get to sit in the dark until they get back. There is an air conditioning unit in the room, another rarity in Europe, but don't get too excited yet. The coolest it will get to is 24 degrees C, that is over 75 degrees F. 75 is not cool to me. 75 is a put on a bathing suit and go swimming temp for me. But there are windows to open. They are both on the same side of the building, so no cross breeze. So it did not cool the room down at all. As well, there are not any screens on the windows (once again, not unusal for Europe), however, mosquitoes were an issue here. All night we could hear them buzzing around our heads. I put ear plugs in so I would not hear the buzzing, however, that was a mistake because all I did was open the mosquito buffet. I woke up with 5 mosquitoe bites on my face (1 on each eyelid, 2 on my forehead and 1 on 1 on my cheek). Breakfast was ok. Continental and some cheese, no eggs. They had an automated coffee machine which served you in plastic cups. A turn off for us having recieved made to order coffee in real cups every place else we stayed. I dont know if the owner is a technolgy junkie, a go green advocate or just extremely frugal, but I did not get a warm fuzzy feeling here. However, it is a decent and very clean place to stay.
