Serenity in the Jungle. We booked this lovely cottage for our honeymoon and it couldn't have been more romantic. We loved the local art, lighting and seclusion of this cozy space. Outdoor spa and shower are lovely. Bathroom had a heated towel rack which was a welcome surprise. Bed linens were high quality and the mattress was comfy. Kitchen is fully appointed with high quality dishware and utensils. Pantry is stocked with coffee, tea, sugar a and few spices. Simple breakfast items are provided as part of your fee. I also want to call out the cleanliness. The cottage was immaculate. I don't get to see that often in my travels. We loved the place so much that we extended our stay by one night. Paul and Janet have created a very special space for travelers looking to slow down, unwind and just be. In our brief interactions via phone with the local cottage caretaker Catherine, we found her to be hospitable and kind. We also appreciate that the owners offer their guests a 25% discount on all future bookings. As a business owner myself who lived on Maui for several years, I'd add only one suggestion. It would have been a nice touch if we received a bit of aloha for the extra night we booked, e.g. the 25% return guest discount given it could have been seen as a new booking and the cottage was vacant that day. I mention it only as a suggestion for future situations like ours. The courtesy would have been much appreciated. In closing, this place rocks and we can't wait to come back next year.

Perfection in a rainforestThis place is a delight. So beautiful. The grounds are lush-the outdoor shower is exquisite-the hot tub with its own pagoda is dreamy. The gas fireplace takes the chill off in minutes..so cozy and perfect. Truly a heavenly place to relax and feel spoiled.

Best Place we have ever stayed in!!****My partner Ryan and I absolutely loved this place. The owner / caretaker are incredibly thoughtful, supportive and absolutely and this little cottage is a hidden Gem! I went here for my birthday, and was given a beautiful book as gift with a lovely written card. Everything is thought about, from kitchen and utilities, cooking and bathroom supplies the entire place is perfectly set up, you cant find any better. I have stayed in many cottages, B&Bs and hotels, but this cottage was by far the best! The cottage has such a beautiful vibe, the outside Spa, fireplace is amazing. I cannot recommend this place enough, I have not stayed in a better place (seriously) we 100% coming back here. Thank you so very much!!

Heart of PeleWe stayed here 12 months ago but I am absolutely horrendous at writing reviews in a timely manner. Anyways: this was the most romantic, comfortable and satisfying endeavor me and my partner have ever experienced. Want peace in nature? Come here. Want to experience Hawai'i? Come here. Sure, the bedroom is small yet it brought us closer together. The hot tub was amazing. The outside shower was serendipitous. The soft robes were welcoming and the hosts were incredible. We were welcomed with every accommodation we requested and then some. They responded promptly and respectfully to each question. My recommendation, if you want to find love in the heart of Hawaii, visit here. We visited for Christmas last year and fell more in love then ever before. We literally have talked about the Volcano Mist Cottage every few months since. No, don't expect a four course breakfast, expect a fully equipped kitchen to relax with your loved one. No, don't expect a staff waiting for you, let Pele welcome to Volcano, HI. Don't expect house keeping, expect a home that a lovely couple shares with you- take care of it as if it was your own home. Biggest negative about this beautiful retreat is that we had to leave. We can't wait go to back!

Did not live up to expectationsWe were looking forward to a first-class stay at the cottage as that was what was advertised and what the price of nearly $400 per night for a small cottage for two should buy. For the most part, the place could have lived up to expectations, but first-class and that price should have bought more than we experienced. The first night of three nights was very uncomfortable for us because there was no heat, and we are high up in the mountains. The remote for the fireplace had dead batteries, and there was no other way to turn it on. Called to cottage keeper, and he told us to go to a store. We tried and found out that no store in the small village was opened at that time. He only offered to come replace the batteries in the morning. We wanted to make use of the advertised home theater system and found that this also did not work at all. There was no signal for the TV, the DVD player did not work. It appeared that the universal remote did not work at all despite very effort to follow the instructions in the guest book. Our emails to the proprietor regarding these problems were not answered, which again is not up to the advertised standards. Breakfast for the first morning was as expected, with fruits, pastries, and juice left for us before we arrived; but was not repeated for the remaining two mornings of our stay. We found that the advertised pantry stocked with continental breakfast items meant a box of oatmeal packets. We did not bother to complain about this since we had no reply to our previous email. We also had to buy our own paper towels because the dispenser had only one sheet left. It seems that the place may have not been rented out for a while due to the COVID shutdown, but there was plenty of time between our reservation and arrival to get up to speed; and we still havent had any reply from the proprietor to our complaints.
