Lovely stay in a beautiful place

Well located just outside Kissamos center with beautiful sea view. Bungalows would need maintenance, but except that we had a pleasant stay. Breakfast ok and swimming-pool very nice and clean. The owner were very kind and helpful.

    Fine but not brilliant

There are two rows of four quite attractive bungalows set into the hillside, all very secluded, hardly within sight of another. The ones higher up the hill are further from the road, so a little quieter. They're surrounded by lovely gardens, and face the sea, 100 meters away, visible through the shrubbery. There's a beautiful pool area, children's pool accessible from the (restaurant) terrace overlooking the pool. The pool bar and restaurant closed (as expected) in October. Four cats (sadly two with only three working legs, and two growing kittens - all very sweet, but might be a nuisance if you don't like cats), three roosters, lots of hens and seven growing 'chicks' wander around the grounds - I loved all that. Michael, the owner is a pleasant, friendly man. Our bungalow (No 1, and I believe all the others) has a terrace at the front with tables and chairs, French doors from the living/dining/kitchen room and from the separate bedroom. There's a large wardrobe and cupboard in the hall, with security box, and also a bathroom with shower. Clothes line behind the bungalow. The bungalows must have been very nice when first built, and a lot of money invested in them and the grounds, pretty stone walls everywhere, nicely laid out. They could do with a little TLC. The 'sofa' is a pull out double bed with wooden surround - very nice and solid, but only covered with a white sheet and two pretty pillows. We put the bedroom blanket over it to make it look more like a seat. The progressively grubby torn table cloth needed throwing away. Unfortunately the lower bathroom and kitchen area tiles' grouting is going mouldy and needs attention, and the shower tray was pretty mucky. We had a problem one morning with the drain from the shower and floor being blocked, flooding the bathroom , hall and bedroom. That was sorted out by Michael, within 90 minutes. An immersion heater in the water tank in the bathroom has to be switched on 10-15 minutes before you want it. The water gets VERY hot and it's difficult to get a decent temperature and water pressure in the shower, but OKish when you do. The bungalow was cleaned every day, all floors washed, rubbish removed. Bed linen and towels were changed every three days - those getting a little worn but very clean. Loo paper, soap and shampoo provided. The kitchen was badly equipped. A 1½ ring hob, as expected in Crete, electric kettle and electric coffee machine, which we didn't use. We could have done with more cooking utensils than the wooden spoon, a larger chopping board, a second teaspoon wouldn't have gone amiss and we used the bottle opener we'd brought with us. We bought two cheap small glasses for wine and juice to supplement the two large tumblers and one small glass. Some larger plates would have make eating easier. I guess most people don't cook much. The bungalows were supposedly 50m from the beach, and 1½km from the town . There were a couple of little sandy places at the bottom of the small cliff nearby, but rubbish accumulated there and they wouldn't have been very nice to use. The nearest, and pleasant, sandy beach in the town at Molos Bay was a 15-20 minute walk. The town edge is 1½km away, but it's a good 30 minute walk to the centre of town where most of the tavernas and shops are. Further away than we'd expected. We had a car so were able to get around. Fabulous beaches nearby at Falassarna and Balos, and further away at Elafonisi, if that's what you want. We prefer exploring and there is gorgeous Cretan countryside all around. Luckily the small town port is directly in front of the bungalows. There are two fish tavernas there, and the more attractive one, on the left as you face the sea, was great ( - Old Man Tsegas). We're veggies and a selection of their appetizers made great meals. Staff there very friendly and helpful. I booked the October holiday in February as the website said there was only one apartment left at the fixed price of £458 for 14 nights (roughly 572, 40 an night). That 'offer' still stood not long before we went away. The accommodation was only half full at the most for the two weeks we were there, and I'm sure if we'd arrived on spec we could have paid substantially less than the 40 advertised daily charge.

    Loved it!!

Amazing views, wonderful hospitality. Lovely comfortable apartments and lush swimming pool. A much less touristy area of the island, which we loved. Very peaceful. Had a wonderful time!! Will book again!!

Outside of the town of Kissamos Vista del mar offers spacious apartments in nice garden with beautiful pool area. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Nice fish taverne is nearby. A car is recommended!
