  Crackers about the Cheeseboard

  This centrally located hotel in Naestved has several assets in its friendly efficient staff. The exterior and downstairs look promising but I agree with other reviewers; the upstairs areas and the rooms are in need of a make over - however, I suspect that would lead to a price hike and I think you get what you pay for. The rooms are ok; nothing fancy but adequate. Literally at the end of the day I want clean accommodation, a comfy bed and facilities that function as they should, and that's what I got. One grumble - I would've also liked the means to make myself a hot drink in the room. For me the star of the show was the glorious cheeseboard I had at dinner - it was generous with four different and delicious cheeses, a good variety of crackers and came accompanied by grapes, physallis fruits, honeyed nuts and pesto which made for a perfect balance of salty and sweet. With a glass of ruby port it was a true delight. Breakfast the next day was a good standard buffet - plenty to choose from, all fresh but no surprises. The biggest surprise in this fairly traditional hotel is the imposing portrait at the top of the curved staircase which made me wonder what kind of a place I had stumbled upon. This huge soft porn image would be more appropriate in a bordello than a hotel. I've no idea who the lady is but the owners of the hotel should probably put her in a less public place - it's not even a good painting!

  Old style charm

  Old style charm hotel with heavy wooden floors and doors right in the city center. It won't appeal to all though. Good service, quiet but small rooms and good heating system. Try also the restaurant, it was great!

  Faded Charm (in need of TLC).

  It is maybe a bit generous giving Hotel Vinhuset a 4 rating, maybe a 3.5 would be more suitable. The building has been operated as a hotel since 1778, and has an interesting history dating back to the 16th century. This hotel has a lot of potential. It is ideally situated in Sct Peders Kirkeplads, surrounded by many other old historic buildings. There are many positive features about this establishment. The location for one, it is not far from the town centre and various local attractions. There is a welcoming dining area from which we were able to choose from a well prepared, varied menu, (typical, delicious Danish fare). The interior is a bit less than what you would expect, it is a Heritage Building. There is a beautiful winding staircase, unfortunately, it is needing a bit of TLC. We stayed on the first floor, here we were greeted by the large painting of "The Woman", a bit of an eyepopper. The painting doesnt match or enhance the surroundings; however, I would say with a smile, please keep it! The staff we had contact with, were also an asset. We would like to pass on our thanks to Gabriella, all the best! There was free parking available, some convenient, some not so. The wifi was free and worked well. The hotel has its charm, we would stay again, but we would only hope that the owners would spruce things up, do justice to this old building. As alluded to, the building inside is getting a bit tired looking and the outside needs a bit of work. (Do note however, things were clean and tidy). The window ledge outside our room was rotting away, and the window itself needed to be "modernized". Our room itself was clean and comfortable, the bathroom clean and adequate. That being said, the room, however, was quite dated, the plaster on the walls needed a few repairs, and a new, more modern paint job. The large Lord of the Rings framed poster over the bed also seemed "out of place". This is all meant to be constructive criticism, as is noted, the property has a lot of potential. I guess maybe the improvements might raise the cost of staying here, or maybe not. As it was, the rates were not low, but perhaps reasonable when you factor in the delicious breakfast that was included. One last suggestion might also include the installation of a lift, a small one even. One thing that cannot be improved upon however, is the location, Naestved itself and the surrounding area. This is the lovely Danish countryside where my Dad and his family grew up and some are still living. You can visit some of Denmark's old churches, Sct Peders Kirke, located steps away from the Vinhuset, is Naestved's largest church, scarcely altered since 1375. A short distance away is Sct Mortens, dating back to ca. 1280. You can visit Herlufsholm, the site of another old church, and a private boarding school dating back to 1565. A short drive out of town is the estate, Gisselfeld. Here you can tour the beautiful gardens and partake in some local history. If you want a bit of beach time, take a short drive out to the touristy and inviting little town of Karrebaekminde. If you desire a bit of nature, you can canoe or fish on Denmark's third largest river, the River Susa. There is much to see and do in the area. We don't wish to judge Hotel Vinhuset too harshly, our stay in the area was pleasant and the hotel served our needs. Our comments are meant to be honest and constructive. P.S. Heck, my sister remembers coming here for events as a "kid".

  Can charm save it - not really

  Central location, but way past it's glory days youll find the hotel dating back to year 1778. Friendly staff and ok breakfast in the quite dull restaurant, but our room needed a pair of caring hands, both for interior and overall maintenance. We arrived late, found our key on the desk, slept, ate breakfast and left. If that is all you need and you find a reasonable price, it might be worth the money. For longer stay I would recommend some other hotel.

  Central location, difficult parking

  The hotel has a central location in Næstved right beside the church. When arriving saturday evening all parking spaces closeby were occupied, we finally found space about 10 min away. The rom was nice, maybe a bit outdated, located directly under the roof, it was very warm, even the weather wasn't. The staff was friendly and breakfast good, Wifi worked fine.
