    A home away from home

If you are looking for a posh vacation place stay away from Rodi and keep going further into Gargano. Neither beach nor nightlife are worth mentioning. But, if you like to mix up and sing with locals up on the piazza at locanda Papucchil or dine down at the modern marina, this is the place to go. And Villa Vittoria is right in between, just 5 minutes walk up or down - in standard distance terms - or one gelati - my special measure for late night home walking distance. What else? Yes, there is a pool, private parking, nice clean rooms and a really good restaurant, but there are many places sharing these attributes. So what makes us come back since several years and feel like home? It's the people running this place and the locals of Rodi, kind of family..... PS: Sorry, but best room is taken in July. If you opt for the second best we might be neighbours.

    Nice hotel with fabulous view

The view at the Adriatic sea and on Rodi is fabulous. The room was small. But why do you need a big room when you are the whole day outside and you have your own little terrace. The breakfast was Italian with sweet food. The guy who made breakfast was very pleasant.

    Superb experience despite the downpour

We arrived at the Albergo in the midst of a very heavy downpour. The young staff were very helpful in getting us safely into our rooms - and changing the room for one of our party who wanted to be closer to the others. Dinner at the restaurant was a wonderful experience and we were able to select our own menu. The view over the harbour is stunning and the service exemplary. Breakfast was another delicious feast.

    Very lovely hotel. Great personnel!

Very simply said, the Albergo Villa Vittoria, in Rodi Garganico, Apulia, Italy, is a lovely hotel, beautifully situated above the Adriatic Sea and a 5 minute walk from the town. From our room, called "Petunia", one could see the town to the right and te sea, below. From the balcony, one can see the extraordinary sunsets. The room, neither large nor small, but a good size, for Italy, was cleaned daily by an invested cleaning staff, always friendly and courteous. Indeed, almost the entire staff was exceptionally kind, from the owner, Angela, to our waiter, Antonio. Given we arrived about 2 weeks after the high season ended, the last third bit of September, they were open to chatting and very friendly. When I say "almost" the entire staff, I refer to the one defect found, more or less, regarding the hotel. My husband and I, a gay couple, which Italy has not completely embraced, yet, especially in the South where this hotel is, felt a bit awkward when dealing with the husband of the owner, Enzo. I speak for myself when I say that I felt that he was rather repelled by us. Initially, we felt it might be because we were not wine drinkers therefore, amidst our "mezza pensione" deal, which is economical with breakfast and dinner included, we were not adding on a bottle of wine at dinner. However, we began to see him chat freely with ALL the other guests, except us. Indeed, when we departed yesterday morning, we received warm hugs and such from ALL the staff while Enzo gave a silent, half-wave from behind a coffee stand. Ok, it's not out of the norm but in the end, our money is the same as everyone else's. In the week we spent in this lovely hotel and town, he was the only person to be distant with us. As we are an openly gay couple, very well mannered and he was an openly Southern Italian man, with that machismo that many carry with them, there could be no other reason. I am American and my husband, Italian, so for me, more than my husband, Enzo's comportment was clearly evident. He did not, though, in any way, affect our holiday adversely. Between pool and beach, it was great. Plus, for the spiritual, the church and memorial to Padre Pio is an hour away as is a 5th century sanctuary dedicated to Michael, archangel. Glorious! If you want peace, it's ideal. If you want a bit of everything, it's ideal. A group of 50 Belgians and Dutch tourists arrived 3 days before we left and they were very sweet. The townspeople are sweet, too. If you have the choice, take the Mezza Pensione because the food is rather good, family style, plus the restaurants in town were about 65 for two, without wine. Lots of seafood, obviously, given the locale. I would recommend this hotel and would, myself, stay there again, regardless of the treatment of one man, for all......! I cannot testify to how it is in high season, but late September is great for us. Not the heat you find in July and less people. Another point, there was a wedding of locals when we were there which for me is a good sign. For this town in this part of Italy, I don't think you could do better. Would have given 5*.....but the owner's husband's behavior toward us will not allow me to. Perhaps I am über sensitive, but I think not. Go, have fun. PS.....the staff, as kind as they are, don't seem to speak English, so a little Italian is helpful, which I'd hope one would do, anyway in a foreign country, as it is only polite and appropriate. Pax ed bonum.

    We loved it !

The rooms are simple but just perfect! The staff are friendly. The younger waiters , the breakfast staff, cleaners, reception. We walked down to the beach and into town daily. The restaurant serves the best seafood and has a good wine list. We throughly enjoyed our stay and will be returning!
