  Old and new

  Villa Visnes is one of those faboulous old wooden hotels along the Norwegian fjords. But the apartments are new and modern. We stayed only one night - too short to appreciate an apartment really. I hope that they will soon paint the hotel outside and fully restore the main hall with that great old architecture.

  Gru's house from despicable me

  The apartment is clean and new from the inside. The building though heritage looks dilapidated on the outside. Quite noisy as it is adjacent to the main road. This place is not quite ready and complete.

  Mala experiencia de principio a fin

  Estuvimos mi mujer y yo la noche del 12 de Agosto en Villa Visnes. Para comenzar a la llegada la puerta del establecimiento está cerrada. Hay una nota en la puerta que indica que se llame al apartamento 5 o se llame a un tfno. noruego. En el timbre del apartamento 5 no contestaba nadie, asñÍ que tuve que gastar una llamada al teléfono noruego. Allí me contestó una persona que me indicó que iba a llamar a una chica que estaba dentro del establecimiento para que nos atendiese. Esta chica efectivamente apareció al rato y se limitó a cobrarnos y a darnos las llaves de nuestro apartamento y que si teníamos alguna duda que llamásemos al apartamento 5 al dueño. A la mañana siguiente nos dirigimos a la recepción a tomar el desayuno que habíamos pagado como un extra en booking.com. No había nadie. Ni en el apartamento 5 ni en el teléfono noruego contestaba nadie. Tuvimos que ir a desayunar a una gasolinera porque al ser domingo estaba todo cerrado en Stryn. A la vuelta he estado reclamando la devolución y el establecimiento no reconoce el servicio cuando observo por los comentarios de otros huéspedes que este servicio se ha estado dando. Obviamente no puedo recomendar a nadie que vaya a este establecimiento

  Apartment Living

  There are two options. A hotel and an old house converted into apartments. We stayed in one of the apartments and enjoyed being able to spread out. There were two rooms and could sleep up to 6 people total. There was a washing machine but no dryer. A small kitchen with amenities and a refrigerator. There are two grocery stores nearby but in driving distance to stock up. When we got to the apartment, there was no one monitoring check in because it is one young man who was upstairs setting up rooms. There is a note on how to contact someone on the front door. The location is a bit noisy because it is along the highway but it does have air conditioning so you don't have to rely on the windows being open.

  Not really very happy with the experience

  Finding a place to stay in this area is really tough. That's why I was very excited when Villa Visnes began offering rooms. However, there are issues. First, the room was kind of misrepresented when I booked, causing a minor problem. It appears this misrepresentation has been edited on the booking sites now so we will move along to other concerns. We arrived here about 1 pm baggage in tow and found our way through a series of open doors to a room pictured in the photos here. The photo does not accurately represent the mayhem in that room. As one reviewer has written, it could have been Grue's room or for someone of my generation, the Addams' Family. More precisely, as if Grue or the Addams's were being evicted.. The room was dirty and disheveled. At first, no one was around. Several times, young women passed by or through but gave us no acknowledgement. There were enough signs of doom that I was unsure if the place was still a working business, although it appeared some people were in the process of changing out linens in the rooms. I worked my way over to what appeared to be a check-in/check out desk and the pile of credit/debit card receipts indicated they had been printed the previous weekend. So, it seemed the place was still operational. Yet, despite our presence and occasional "hello?"s there was no response. After about an hour passed, one of the young women we would occasionally see came in the room again and we simply asked her if we could check in. "Oh, you want to check in we're not quite ready yet." The infamous local lack of customer service skills. They could have spoken to us an hour earlier about that. The young woman called someone on her phone to check us in and told us they would be finished with the room shortly. They were. But perhaps they were a little rushed on our part as we received no bath towels and only a couple of hand towels. There really aren't any kitchen items either. There were a couple of pots, but not a lot of other cooking items. No coffee cups. There wasn't even salt or pepper. We had just come from an older, yet nice, vacation apartment on the other end of the fjord and the differences were stark. Visnes at times seems both new and unfinished AND weather beaten and run down. For instance, the lock on the front door was newly installed yet it did not work. The latch did not engage and the door did not fully close. The stove was new yet did not work properly. There aren't curtains or standard window coverings, but worn out sheets covering the windows. The so-called view from the first floor is of the main road. Really not much fjord is visible. We were lucky in that the previous week there had been a flash flood that had washed out the road some miles away and was restricting the traffic through the area. Otherwise the noise would have tremendous. As it was, it was far too noisy to sit on the front patio. The outside grill area was a complete disaster, as if they had just come out of a long hard winter and not in the middle of summer. In addition, the both of us ended up covered in flea bites. I really can't reconcile the high ratings here by others with our experience.
