Most beautiful view I've ever had in a hotel

This hotel is amazing. At first, you cannot really call it a "hotel" as it only has 5 rooms making you feel like being in a private home. Especially Caroline and her mother who took care of us from the beginning made us feel at home right away. The food is amazing, the only "complicated" thing is that you usually have to order dinner or lunch 48 hours in advance as the cook will prepare meals on demand only. However, there are also very nice restaurants in the area that are just a 5-10 minute uber or cab ride away. Joatinga beach which is a small and private beach is also just a 15 minute walk away, the entire area is very safe and also a gated community, so no need to worry. All rooms offer the most amazing view over the coast and ocean making waking up in the morning the best thing ever. In general, the view from every angle of this hotel is just breathtaking, especially from the living room and pool area, I could have spent hours there just watching the scenery. Only thing about the rooms: the bathrooms don't have real doors to close but more of a swinging door, so you won't get full privacy in the bathroom if needed :) Overall an amazing stay and I would recommend it to everyone, even if it is just for a few nights. Remark: apparently better rates are offered by booking directly through the hotel than through booking sites.

    Hermosa vista y servicio personal

    Incredible stay

Villa Rio was everything we expected based on prior reviews. The facility was beautiful and the surrounding views were stunning. Caroline and Marieangela were fantastic hostess' helping us through some travel difficulties. They were a great source for local information and tips which proved very helpful. The rooms were fantastic with exceptional views. We visited during a really hot season which was unusual and so the heat was a little bit of an issue. The A/C in our room had a hard time keeping up with the heat but maintained a pleasant atmosphere although we would have preferred to be cooler. That same heat was somewhat oppressive in the public areas when the sun was shining in heavily through the beautiful glass front. This was from our understanding highly unusual due to a historical heatwave. Other than that the stay was great. The breakfast was amazing as our hosts made sure that there was a wide variety of offerings each morning. All of our hosts and staff were extremely cordial and helpful and went overboard to make our stay memorable. We would recommend highly staying here as opposed to the overcrowded beaches in Rio. The location gets you to a wider array of beaches, Olympic venues, etc all in about a 30 min drive or less.

    A lucky find

Booked my accommodation late (as decided on a whim to come to the Olympics after realising that tickets to some of the main events were still available) - and found this gem on Expedia. It was only available because a deal with one of the country Olympic federations to use the property fell through at a late stage. Lucky for me, as this really is a very lovely place, tucked away from the madness of the main tourist areas of Rio. The rooms and general areas are decorated with taste and chic, the views are stunning, the hosts so friendly and helpful, and I think the breakfasts are the best I've ever had in the all the hotels I've stayed at over the years. Be aware that it is not close to Copa/Leblon/Ipanema etc) and not that easy to get to (taxis were pretty quick when called though) but, depending on what you're looking for, that's part of the appeal. Thank you so much Caroline and MarieAngela, only wish I could have stayed a little longer...
