A Gem!I recently returned from a trip to Sicily and southern Italy, which included three nights at the Hotel Villa Principe Giovanni. I have been blessed to travel to many European countries and my stay here ranks among the top! Yes, there are many steps, but they are worth the effort and Positano is all steps! I was traveling with friends and when we reached the lobby of the Conca d'Oro we were warmly greeted by Arianna and quickly checked in. We were then shown the dining room and patio dining area (breathtaking) and the upper level solarium. After that we were taken to our rooms in the Villa where a chilled bottle of sparkling wine was waiting. I had room 601 and my friends had room 602. We were stunned by the beauty of the view and the lovely elegance of the room. Outside of my side window was a beautiful persimmon tree filled with ripe fruit-truly paradise! In the morning we had the included breakfast which was quite sufficient with baked goods, fruits and cereals. Pasquale was a wonderful, efficient and warm server, eager to please. In the evening hours we dined twice at the hotel where Luca eagerly saw to our dining enjoyment (both with the food and his suave personality). When we had questions about anything, Pina was available at the desk in the evening and even assured us that our luggage could be brought down at 3:30 A.M. for our ridiculously early departure to the Naples airport. My only disappointment in this whole stay was the cold water in the hot? tub! Really nothing to complain about. The service was wonderful, the food was very good, the room and view spectacular! I wish we could have stayed longer and would not hesitate to return.

Great viewsThis is a lovely annexe to the hotel Conca d'oro situated a couple of flights of stairs down from the hotel. I pitied the young man who met us and carried our bags up to the hotel only to have to carry them down again. The steps in Positano are numerous and not for the infirm. The hotel staff are friendly and showed us the dining room and sun terrace both of which have amazing views. A chilled bottle of prosecco awaited in our room which was spacious, clean, nicely furnished with a four poster bed and our own terrace, again with a great view. Breakfast is taken in the hotel dining room and is ok but if you want anything hot or an extra cup of coffee you are charged for it. From what I saw of the hotel rooms they also looked nicely furnished. The sun terrace is a real sun trap and we spent a couple of mornings there relaxing and taking in the scenery. The staff assisted in booking a trip to Pompeii which is well worth the considerable time it took to get there. Don't hire a car! The roads are a nightmare and you are there to relax and enjoy yourself which we certainly did in this nice hotel. We didn't dine in the restaurant, there are lots of nice ones nearby and in the town although from what I saw the food looked good and reasonably priced. Positano is a beautiful place and I would recommend this hotel but you have to be prepared to do a lot of walking, unless you catch the bus into the town. The bus stop is close to the hotel. A great place to visit and a great hotel to stay in.

Steps to an amazing viewPositano is almost vertical, so you have to expect steps, and as we have been here before we were not surprised with 105 steps to our room. Once you get to your room the steps are forgotten as you have the most wonderful view of Positano and the majestic sea. The young man (Peppino ) servicing the hotel guests made sure that our luggage was taken to our room, and honestly this guy deserves a lot as he single handedly bought all or suitcases up and then down when it was time to leave, AMAZING. The hotel is very charming and clean with staff always willing to help. Breakfast was great and changed daily, with the best coffee and a large choice of delicacies. Be prepared for lots of steps but also be prepared for a wonderful stay. Will definitely come back.

A Picture Postcard Perfect StayPositano is a magical place and the gem of the Amalfi Coast. That said, it's a vertical town and you should be prepared to walk up and down a lot of steps. This hotel is no exception, as others have noted. But we had a very nice spacious room with a huge tub, beautiful tile floor and an incredible view. Thankfully, the air conditioning worked really well. The hotel provided a complimentary bottle of prosecco upon arrival and the staff was pleasant, friendly and accommodating. The restaurant serves very nice meals--with many of the ingredients fresh from its own garden. And you can't beat the view. Overall, it's a winner.

Fantastic view from the roomThe room we stayed in was a great size and had everything we needed. The small balcony gave a lovely sea view and of positano. (A tip is to ask for a wifi mini router to boost your internet signal if needed)
