10 Year Wedding AnniversaryWe stayed at Hotel Villa Giatra with 41 of our friends. We were celebrating our 10th Wedding Anniversary and this was really the only hotel large enough in the area to accommodate us all. I had read some reviews and they were pretty mixed so came here with an open mind and a c'est la Vie attitude. From the moment we arrived (1am Wednesday morning) we were treated like royalty. This is a family run hotel and each and every member of family/staff went over and beyond for all of us. From arranging all 20 something rooms, to the celebratory meal, to assisting with a lost passport (the lovely lady on the front desk actually drove me and lost passport friend to the police station to have all the documents he required to get back issued.) and flat car battery we were spoilt by the quality of service. This hotel has fantastic facilities, the pool is beautiful and never before have I sunbathed in such amazing surroundings and views. The pool staff work hard to please and assist as well as perfecting my child's swimming style. The rooms were clean and perfect for our needs. Beds were made daily and fresh towels were left as we required. We aren't the tidiest people in the world but the maids left our room spotless each afternoon. The food was fantastic. We ate in the hotel for lunch and dinner during our stay as well as eating out (which again the staff were happy to help book for us) and also celebrated our anniversary here. Whether they were catering for 10 of us for lunch or 59 adults and 14 kids for dinner the food was very very good and the waiters were able to assist with every need. What to expect when you come here... This is a family run hotel in the centre of Sicily. It's is just about as Sicilian as you can get. If you are looking to take in the real Sicilian life then this area/hotel is perfect for you. The staff speak a little English and all my Brit friends were able to get by and understood enough. It's the sort of place that locals visit during the day and would stay at for a special occasion. If you want the real experience this is the place for you. If however you want the full on tourist experience ie. English language, English life and English food then you're best off either staying at home or sticking to Benidorm. I cannot praise the hotel and staff enough we had the most amazing time and have been left with a feeling of longing to return. We will be back soon enough... Thank you Hotel Villa Giatra you couldn't have given us anymore x

looks good but needs improvingFound this hotel late at night after driving for hours looking for somewhere to stay. Big hotel with ample car parking - very impressive building but the inside lets it down. The staff speak a little English. Restuarant attached to hotel was full of families but the food was ok except the waiter stands over you while you read the menu - which is slightly off putting. There is a very large swimming pool at the back but it is open to the public so can get very busy. This has the protential to be a very upmarket resort but instead it feels like a homeless hostel

Needs to be refurbished, desperately. And get better staff. We stayed for 2 nights. On arrival, the man on reception was very rude and aggressive. The room we were given was basic and run down. There were ants crawling around on the floor and the shower cubicle was broken. No decent space to hang clothes. The outdoor pool is a great size, but is used by the entire village, so its noisy (both from the noise of people and loud music) and massively over populated. We had dinner in the restaurant, which was actually not bad... nothing to shout about but decent enough. Nowhere to get lunch from though, other than the garage next door. The breakfast selection was a croissant or cereal. Very poor selection. Thankfully, we only stayed for 2 nights as we were attending a wedding and then heading to Taormina. Ive stayed in basic hotels before, but this one was really very poor in both decor and service. Have met some rude people in my life, but none as rude as the man we met on reception on arrival. Id find somewhere else before you consider staying here.

Disappointing holiday hotelThe hotel is in need of some serious renovation as the rooms although large are poorly kept, the beds are like the floor of a boxing ring and the shower cubicle door kept falling off. The staff outside the hotel were great very energised and friendly but the ones Manning reception and in the dining area were awful...terrible customer service, some of which may have been due to the language barrier but at breakfast bringing out extra fruit was a major battle. Food was awful ate there one time and regretted it even breakfast was dire. There's meant to be a bar but no one is there manning it and reception have better things to do apparently. I really thought it would be perfect for Gordon Ramsey to roll in with his truck and sort the whole place out. Finally a word about the noise...it's horrendous - during the day they play dance music very loudly by the pool and at night the parties seemed to start at 11pm and go on until 4am we were lucky as we had a room that was up on the 2nd floor but still required ear plugs and even then it was noisey. Overall very disappointed but for the pool and staff around it it would have got a 1 Star award.
