  Absolutely wonderful

  I travelled here with my husband and three boys. We were greeted on arrival by Helen, who was just lovely and made a real fuss of the boys. We had booked two bedroom apartment. When Helen showed us in to our room, I could not believe the size of it. It was enormous. We had three exits to the massive balcony. When you are a family of five, it is often difficult to find accommodation that is not cramped. The balcony as well as being enormous felt very safe too so I was happy for our boys to be out there. The beach is just 70m away with a perfect little Taverna. The menu is small but it made for an easy choice and was more than adequate for what we wanted. The pool at the apartments was perfect for our family. Having two x 6 year olds and a 4 year old, the size and depth was just right. The lady that worked at the pool bar was very attentive to our needs and although they do not sell food there, she arranged for a takeaway from a nearby Taverna to deliver food. She then set us up a table with plates and cutlery, nothing was too much trouble. Location wise, it is perfect also as bus stop number 14 is right outside, one way you can travel right to Koukanaries and the other to Skiathos Town, it is very inexpensive and frequent. The transfer time to the apartments from the airport is approximately 20 minutes, again perfect for our family. I can not rate the Villa D'ell Angelo highly enough. It is rated as a 2* plus but I would rate it much higher, the linen is beautiful, The bathroom very modern and the apartments are so clean and cleaned daily. I am a Travel Agent and do not generally return to the same place but we are seriously considering returning again. We had the most wonderful holiday, thank you.

  Amazing vacations

  Traditional lovely apartments so comfortable that made our vacations unforgettable. This place is really amazing, isolated from the noises of the city with a very clean and big pool. The drinks from the bar near the pool and the nature around villa dell' angelo makes the accommodation so special. The stuff is really friendly and the apartments are so clean with a very big variety of services. If you want to forget your daily routine you should visit that place. Thanks a lot for that experience I will definitely come again.

  Thank you very much for the hospitality in our stay. We booked for a week in the beginning of May and it was wonderful. Very friendly staff, wonderful spacious apartment and lovely weather. Well come back. As for the rest you can see my otrher reviews.

  Traditional Greek Accommodation

  Stayed here in June for two weeks as a couple, booking with Olympic Holidays UK. Arrived by taxi and was greeted by Helen. We had the huge room with the white oval bed which was so comfortable. It had a well equipped kitchen for Greek standards and a large wrap around balcony. The bathroom was modern with walk in shower, but was very very small. Linen and towels were changed on alternate days, but you do need to supply washing-up liquid, dish-cloths, tee -towels. Wifi was excellent. Air- conditioning was included in the price but was in-effective and we suffered with the heat at night. Safe also included but Helen couldnt get it to work ! The pool area was clean and lovely well cared for gardens. Location to Kolios beach is ideal. The nearest supermarket was a few minutes on main road to Skiathos. Nearest tavernas a few minutes along the road, but we found these to be more expensive, so we walked towards the next village. The main road is noisy and busy, and quite dangerous at night, a torch is needed, and I am not sure I would like young children to walk it a night. We had a problem trying to get the bus into Skiathos Town in the evening, it was always full, so didnt stop at Bus Stop 14, so relied on taxis which were slightly more expensive. We did feel a little isolated as there was no reception area and not many people used the pool area, and the pool bar was never used. The rep was only contactable by phone. We loved Skiathos, but would stay else -where next time.

  Nice Property, Shame About the Noisy Location

  We preface this review by saying it, and our recommendations, are based only on our 2019 holiday experience, and our preferences, which may not be the same yours. Were sure there will be many Skiathians, or Skiathophiles , who will violently disagree with this review, based on their expectations and their reality, but on the basis of our experience we would advise you not to go to Skiathos unless you want a beach holiday, pure and simple, are physically fit and have good cash reserves. You will find glowing reviews of Villa Dell Angelo from other travellers but we found it so disappointing that we wanted to leave half way through a two week holiday. Principally this was because of the constant noise from the close-by road, which was compounded by a land clearance project next door. Nevertheless we think this is a balanced and fair review. We include comment here more general to the location, and Skiathos itself, but only because the Villa Dell Angelo brochure descriptions also touch on them and they provide background to a decision to book, or not. We decided to book a 2 bedroom apartment in Villa Dell Angelo, through a tour company and our local travel agent, based on brochure descriptions and photographs of accommodation and facilities that also promised an ideal place for a peaceful getaway. The manageress at the Villa, Helen, her family and other staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. Nothing was too much trouble (not that we asked for a lot). The rooms, all large with nice high ceilings, were kept very clean (every day) and all of the linen was changed every other day. There were lots of towels, but we took our own beach towels. The two double beds, both full UK King size, were firm and very comfortable. The wardrobes space very adequate (though with broken drawer fronts) and there was a working safe. The villas 'headline' facilities, as described in the tour companys brochure, were (almost) all present, including working air conditioning in one bedroom and the lounge/diner/kitchen. We found that many of the managements own photos (which the tour company had simply reproduced in their brochure) were dressed for marketing purposes and well out of date. If you are attracted to Villa Dell Angelo by one tour company we recommend you look at and compare the traveller category images on this site, as well as the owners own website and those of any other tour company offering the same accommodation. There was no games room, as claimed, as it was now a locked office/store. The pool table in the brochure images was now outside the poolside bar area, covered by a tarpaulin, right next to the noisy road and, anyway, with insufficient room round it to play. The bar itself was variably stocked (weve run out of coffee) and only open part of the day. There was no lounge as such, not as we understand the term to mean, anyway: there is a poolside roofed structure on a decked area, open on 3 sides, with newish hard- surfaced chairs and tables provided with ashtrays. There were a small number of new poolside sunbeds, but the majority of sunbeds were wooden, or rusty steel framed, and well past their best: many had ripped or perished covers. The pool is large and has a separate, but adjacent, shallow pool for small children. The edges of the pool, at water level, were lined with sun-oil or otherwise stained and some of the poolside paving and cement was cracked and loose. We could've shrugged this off as end-of-season tattiness', for example broken tiles, taps that leaked and lights without working bulbs, but some of it clearly was more than just one years worth. We are seasoned travellers, and knew wed have to improvise and take the rough with the smooth, but we simply couldn't adjust to the constant background noise from the road. The sad truth is that the pool and "beautiful gardens", and the building itself, is hard by the busy main road that connects the resorts along the south of the island. Look it up on Google Earth. It hums and occasionally howls (especially with many raucous quad bikes, some in convoy) from 8am until 10pm or later. This was in September, so what it would be like in high season has to be left to your imagination. If you're looking for the "quiet location", "tranquil rural area" or a place "ideal for those seeking a peaceful getaway" as described in some brochures, in our opinion Villa Dell Angelo is not it. We dont doubt they do exist on Skiathos, and in Kolios away from the road, so shop around before you commit. The building was designed to have all principle rooms facing away from the road, but they were still affected by the noise and, at times, we resorted to ear plugs by the pool hardly tranquil enjoyment. We had a massive balcony, as Helen said to play football, but some of the chairs for the table were rickety and there was no shade, so even with a sunbed (not provided) in the heat of the day it was unusable. We were self-catering, so the very decent fridge freezer (broken bulb) double bowl sink (no plugs as it typical for Greece) and Baby Belling-type cooker were fine (a badly leaking tap was promptly fixed at our request). It was obviously not expected that you would actually spend much time around the accommodation, as we did, or do much self-catering but the lack of even basic provision of things like a little salt or pepper surprised us. A small welcome pack for self-caterers wouldnt be out of order. Warned by another Trip Advisor report we took our own washing up cloth, tea towel and pan scourer. Crockery, cutlery, utensils and saucepans, were adequate and there was a toasted sandwich maker. Provisions can be got from 2 nearby mini-marts, a short walk along the (in our opinion quite dangerous) road. The prices were similar to, or higher than, convenience stores in the UK. You could go into Skiathos Town, where there are bigger supermarkets, but we found this to be true of most prices; perhaps we were out of touch, but our budgeting was seriously out of line with reality. In one place we paid 9 Euros for a cup of undrinkable Nescafe and a one-cup pot of tea. An Athenian Greek tourism management graduate we met suggested that the locals fix the prices amongst themselves every year. If they charged these prices in Athens they would be out of business in a month. The bedrooms were very good, also with high ceilings, both with opening and shuttered doors onto the terrace. The furniture was simple, and the beds firm and very comfortable. The bathroom was small but also fine. It had a hair dryer, walk-in shower, even some complimentary products, but a rather silly small circular wash basin. All in all, how a family or group of 4 (or even 6, if using the 2 sofa-beds in the living area) would manage is questionable we were two people in two rooms. There is free Wi-Fi, which worked well, and a TV which had variable reception but was all Greek no international satellite channels, so unless you speak Greek, not much use. There was no comfortable seating, certainly not for prolonged use, although you could use the two full sized and very long sofa-beds using pillows to prop yourself against a wall. The four chairs at the dining table are, like almost everywhere else we saw, hard edged, upright, and with rush seats: numb bum syndrome after a while. Lighting, in general, was very dim. Though they were there, we were not particularly troubled by mosquitos and plug-in repellent devices were available. By the way mobile phone coverage around the Villa was variable to non-existent. Access to the very nice Kolios beach was by a path across a bit of rough ground, stooping under a hanging (insulated) power cable and stepping over a low fence. This path became difficult because of the ground clearance project. The beach itself is well provided with shade, and watersports, and has a simple taverna Kolios Seafood which we tried once and found fine. There are numerous other tavernas and restaurants, varying in price and offering from poor to excellent, and genre from multinational to full blown locally Greek. Eating out is usually good, or very good, quality and the portions generous but in one place we had a meal served with cold tinned carrots. It seems most places include service in the bill. Skiathos itself is a very small island so, apart from being around a beach, or going hiking, there isnt much to see or do if youre there for more than a week, or the weather is bad. There are the ruins at Kastro, but thats a challenging drive and a steep and uneven walk at the end. There is one working monastery, and some others not working, you can visit. If you are an aviation enthusiast you can go to the end of the airport runway and plane spot, or get blown over by jet blast (but be careful). You can walk round Skiathos Town where there are two small but interesting museums (Papadiamantis House and Maritime History) that will occupy you for all of two hours - for both. . There is a small dog rescue shelter in the countryside where they will happily let you take a dog for a walk. You can take a boat, or ferry, to other islands (like Skopelos, if youre on a Mama Mia pilgrimage) or one of the more inaccessible beaches on Skiathos but thats beaches again. As weve said, the main road from Skiathos to Koukounaries along which, or near, many accommodations are located, is very dangerous to walk alongside day or night, more so for parties with elderly or children. Its constantly busy and noisy, there are few verges and many blind bends. Buses run along this road, about every 20/30 minutes from Skiathos Town to Koukounaries, but theyre heavily used and youll be lucky to find a seat even if you board at one end of the line or the other. There are taxis, of course, but too expensive to resort to regularly. So, if you want to see the remoter and less developed parts, where roads are typically very poor, a jeep or quad bike is a must. 3 days hire of Jeep at around 100 Euros: if you can drive and are confident. We got one delivered and collected from Mustang Car Rental in Skiathos, and service was fine. Wed recommend taking out your own single-trip CDW Excess Insurance before you go. Unfortunately, at the end of a difficult drive (the driver not being able to enjoy the splendid scenery) mostly all there is to see is another beach. We found all the Greek people hospitable, friendly and helpful, as they always are - especially if you make an attempt at the language. One final point, for nervous flyers: the runway at Alexandros Papadiamantis (Skiathos) airport is classified as short and narrow, and it starts and ends in the sea. Landings on it can be robust. For many fully loaded holiday flights the runway is too short to allow take off with a full load of fuel. Diversions en-route for refuelling are common, as are approaches in wet or windy weather, so an anticipated 3 hours seated in a plane can easily turn into 5 hours or more.
