The Ultimate Getaway DestinationThis is the place to go if you want a 5 star secluded place to dive, rest and enjoy the company of your special one. The facilities are truly 5 star and you have more of a home feel than a hotel feeling about the place. There is a really beautiful marine sanctuary really close where I spent countless hours snorkeling and I even got a few dives in as well. Internet connection works well so this is a great place to retreat and do some online work if that is your thing. They have a really nice kitchen so you can do your own cooking - the freshest of the fresh seafood is cheap in the market in Dumaguete or Dauin so it really makes sense to do some cooking of your own here. The guest house does not have their own website, but I found pictures( the pictures sold me on the place ) and booking details here: http://www.dumagueteinfo.com/guesthouse-villa-del-mar-masaplod.php Easiest way to get there is to request the guesthouse to pick you up in the airport.

I feel here like in my dream houseWhen I stepped into this house for the first time I felt like in the house of my dream. I love the style of this building, the details, the furniture, its solid wooden floors, doors and windows. It is a pleasure to walk upstairs by the wide staircase. We stayed here before hopping to Apo island and came back after it. So, all together we will spend here 10 days and if I come back to Dauin I will definitely stay here, in the sea-view room an the second floor. Coming to the details. We can use the kitchen, which is very convenient for us. Usually we eat in the neighbor Sea Dream resort, which is of the same ownership and I must say that food is good, especially meat. My husband's opinion that they have the best fried potatoes on the whole island. We can use the swimming pool of Sea Dream Resort also. I must say the pool is incredibly nice. My son is soaking in it every day. So do I. There isn't a sand beach in front of the hotel, but it doesn't matter. It is just 5 minutes by jeepney or bus from Dauin. And 100 m walk to the main road. The hotel organizes transfer from the airport to the hotel for 600 peso and to the city of Dumaguette for 400 pesos. The service here is really five stars. The cleaning is done every day and the whole premises are spotless. The cleaning lady takes our clothes to wash and return them washed the same day. Everybody is so nice and pay attention to our each and every need. I would like to thank all of the staff and especially the front desk lady Lu, Luise, the cook, the cleaning lady of the house and of course Martin, the owner who organized everything here in such a perfect manner.

The perfect retreatMy partner and I stayed at Villa Del Mar in February 2013, during the Chinese New Year holiday. Everything at Villa del Mar is just perfect. The villa has a very homely feeling, rooms are spacious, tastefully decorated and spotless. The common areas are great, and you can always find a quiet corner where to read, study, browse German magazines or even do yoga (as i did while my partner was watching tv in the room) We didn't use the kitchen simply because food at Sea Dreams (the upmarket resort connected to Villa Del Mar) was excellent. The Austrian chef kindly accommodated our requests and made sure that even vegetarians like us would leave the table happy and fully satisfied in a country where vegetarian meals are hard to find! He is a great asset for Sea Dreams and Villa del Mar. Villa Del Mar is indeed a hidden gem! We loved having goats graze outside our window, and having a chat with guests making breakfast in the kitchen. It really felt like sharing someone's country home rather than staying in a resort. But what made our stay so memorable is the staff's friendliness and professionality. Lu, the Filipina manageress, runs the Sea Dream and Villa Del Mar complex with warmth, grace, passion, competence and efficiency. The German owners made an excellent choice in selecting Lu to manage their resort. The resort wouldn't be the same without her at the helm. We are looking forward to our next holiday here. Relaxing paradiseWe have never enjoyed a "homestay" the way we did ours at Villa del Mare. The house overlooks the ocean and has just three extremely comfortable rooms. The rooms have everything you need with a nice shower, excellent bed, and cable TV. We were able to get Internet there most nights, but were welcomed with open arms to use the services and Internet at the Sea Dream Resort immediately adjacent. The two properties share the same management and ownership so regardless of where you stay, you are greeted warmly with fresh squeezed juice, treated like royalty by an excellent staff, provided access to nice snorkeling equipment, and served excellent drinks and meals around a pool with a gorgeous view of the sea and Apo Island. The staff is superb and will help you arrange any transport, public or their own private, to the sights around the island and on nearby islands. We were graciously upgraded to a room at the resort during our stay as well. It was terrific. We have no doubt that we will return to this special place

Fantastic experienceThis place is a bit upscale and costs a bit more than expected, but believe me it's worth it. The Villa is a new addition to the Sea Dive Resort. It's very new and spotlessly clean. The personnel is very friendly and courteous, but this is usual in Philippines. What is unusual is a level of attention you get there. All the personnel, at the reception, in the restaurant, room service, drivers - all provide the great service and take the best care of you, including answering all your requests. They even make a step further and help you or provide you with what was not requested. :))) We had a constant feeling that those people are thinking about us. The place is very secluded, swimming and snorkeling is possible just ten steps from the door. Coral reefs and marine sanctuary is at your feet, no need to go far away, you can watch marine life even without going deep into water. Morning dip and evening dip in the ocean is a must. Sometimes, you can see even turtles there, so no need to go to the Apo Island (two-way pass with a bunka boat there costs 6,500 peso). Food is very delicious, a bit expensive though. But again, you really get what you pay for. Tours are also expensive, but this seems to be normal prices in Negros Oriental. We took a tour to Balinsasayo Twin Lakes and Valencia area. The lake in the crater of volcano is magnificent, we even swam there. We didn't reach the second lake and waterfalls, but this is for the next time because we'll come back there for sure. From the negative side, I should mention again only the exaggerated prices for almost everything including transportation. I'm comparing the prices with Palawan and Bohol which are a way cheaper. One-way drive to the airport or to Dumaguete city is 1200 peso. Tour to Valencia is about 6000 peso. Diving is of the same price as everywhere in Philippines. By the way, we really liked the diving instructor Gary. He is a real profession, master and naturally-born teacher, also very humorous and nice man. It was a great pleasure to learn from him. To sum up, I highly recommend this place to everyone who are looking for a calm and worry-free, secluded place with the great service and fantastic marine life. I was a bit concerned about the high prices when booked the vacation there, but all was worth it, and I don't regret that we visited the Villa del Mare.
