A good 3* hotel for unpretentious guests, good value for the money

Hello everyone! That was my first time in Corfu, I was travelling with a friend who knows the area well, since she had been there twice already.I love Greece and have always stayed in 4* hotels, but this time I decided to make an exception since my friend really convinced me the Victoria Hill hotel is really worth trying. I will try to highlight all the advantages and points to improve at once. I will start with the things that are in need of improvement, since there are just a few of them: 1.The attitude of the hotel administration I had the impression that every complaint from my part, though fully rightful, was perceived as a personal offence and accepted in an arrogant way, although I am convinced that for the satisfaction of the customer the hotel manager is always supposed to keep the face and react in a friendly way. At the beginning all was OK We were happy that the lady at the reception who received us upon arrival offered us a more spacious room upon request. Also, I had a problem with the food. I have to confess I am a choosy eater and cannot eat fried/ spicy/ fat food. This is why the morning and evening buffet, although copious, was no go for me. I addressed the hotel manager at the reception regarding my problem, and she saw to it that I had chicken every evening which was served by the friendly waitresses when I came. That was again a good thing that I really appreciated. The real problem occurred with the cleaning issue. Our room had not been cleaned for 2 days, and we practically ran out of soap, paper and fresh towels. I went to the reception to make a complaint about that, but the lady sitting there insisted the rooms were cleaned every day and looked really indifferent that time. I was thinking she would send a chambermaid to our room straight away, but that was not the case. I waited till 15 00 and had to return to the reception again, where another lady with a lot friendlier disposition was sitting. She put my complaint down on paper and asked me to wait a bit. At around 16 00- 16 30 I came down to the reception again. That time a man was there. He listened to my complaints indifferently but luckily the chambermaid walked by the reception at the same time and I asked her to follow me into the room. I was really astonished at how poor the communication between the hotel management and the cleaning staff was. Moreover, I never heard of anybody from the reception the words "sorry for the inconvenience" as it is normally the case in such situations. Also, it is not common for the hotel administration to greet the guests when seeing them in the hall area, in the restaurant area, etc. 2. ROOM AMENITIES The room itself was good for a 3* hotel, it was really spacious and was decorated with style. It was located on the ground floor though and overlooked the garden. The only problem was with the tiny build- in bathroom with a shower which was somewhat dated. The door to the bathroom was not built in well enough and needs fixing. The floor towel lying on the loo had brown stains on it. As far as I understood, towels are changed every second day, but since we made a complaint they have been changed every day. The cleaning service was impeccable since that day. ADVANTAGES: 1. THE HOTEL AREA The hotel building as well as the surrounding area look really charming and are well taken care of. The pool is also fine, fine, and the garden with palm- trees all along the main walking area are a pleasure for the eyes. I was really happy with the second room we were moved into, and despite the above mentioned technical inconveniences all was adequate for a 3* hotel rating and well worth the money spent. 2. SERVICEABLE WAITRESSES in the restaurant The girls in the restaurant area did their job amazingly well. Unlike the members of the hotel administration, they speak little English. However, the girls demonstrate a high level of customer- oriented approach: they always smile, greet you when you come and leave the restaurant and are ready to help you when necessary. I wish all the other members of staff were that friendly and polite. 3. CUISINE Due to the fact I could not try 90% of gastronomical delights of the cuisine on offer, I cannot give a fair account of the quality of the food. As I ate little and only a limited number of things, I could only appreciate cheese, yogurt and bread in the morning (+ boiled eggs when available). All was good. My evening meal was reduced to chicken with vegetables. Most of the food was spicy and certainly not for kids and people on a diet. However, if you are not a choosy eater like myself you will certainly find something to your liking: the cook did a good job as all dishes looked appetizing, there were salads, hot dishes and 2 desserts to choose from every evening. Also, there was watermelon every evening. 4. HOTEL LOCATION the Hotel is within 3 - minute walking distance from a supermarket, as well as various mini shops and restaurants. The beach is 10 minutes away across the road. When having breakfast or dinner, you can get an amazing view over the mountains. Conclusion: on the whole Victoria Hill is a good 3* hotel for unpretentious travelers.

    Lovely staff and great location

The staff definitely make this hotel. The Australian lady (didnt get her name!) was so helpful and attentive throughout. She gave us advice and suggestions regarding day trips, activities and transportation which were all very useful! The breakfast is lovely and included in the price which is excellent. You can tell it is fresh and handmade everyday and it is served by a lovely young Greek (I think!) lady who speaks great English with a smile every morning! The men who work in the hotel are also very helpful and welcoming. The location of the hotel is great, a short 5-10 min walk from the stunning Dassia beach and lovely restaurants. A great supermarket is 2 mins away and the bus stop is literally outside the hotel where you can catch a bus to Corfu town. The hotel itself is lovely, the pool is great and the view from it is excellent. The sun beds are also great quality. All together, we loved our 7 night stay at Victoria Hill Hotel and would 100% recommend.
