In the middle of it all!

My friend and I camped here before our Victoria Falls visit. Loved this place in many ways! The bathroom & shower facilities were superb compared to all the other camp sites we stayed at. Two words: WATER PRESSURE! Don't hesitate and enjoy a late night or early morning shower. After a week of camping that blast of hot water is amazing. There is also an awesome sports bar on the site. You can order anything from a grilled cheese sandwich to Ox tail stew. On some nights, local groups will come and perform some tribal dances. One negative is that the camp site is literally in the middle of it all. You will hear trains, buses, nightlife, passers-by etc. Wasn't too distracting but you won't feel like you're camping. One night, an elephant brushed the back of the camp site. Not the safest feeling but the elephant fortunately did not break through the fence. The rest camp is a very short walk from tons of shopping, restaurants & bars. One bit of advice: if you plan on picking up some billion/trillion dollar bills, just remember that EVERYONE sells the and you can get the cheap. DON'T GET HUSTLED! Highly recommend this rest camp! GO GO GO!

Neat & clean, green surroundings.... We loved it!

This property is all that you can expect in an excellent accommodation. It is very close to the town, but yet is absolutely calm and quiet and is situated in highly eco-friendly, clean and green surroundings. The Falls are a gentle downhill 15 minutes walk away. We had opted for a two bedroom self-catering accommodation. The kitchen was well provided with pots and pans (however, the pots are of such heavy material that you have to be a weight lifter to take them off the heater!! - Management will do well to replace them with lighter vessels). Tap water is potable. The two bedrooms are provided with two cots each and clean linen. Bathroom has abundant hot water. The shower works as if you are standing under the Niagara Falls, or more appropriately, Victoria Falls!! Unfortunately, there are prolonged power cuts in all of Zimbabwe. Please borrow a solar lamp from the front desk for a refundable deposit of USD 15. Staff is highly responsive, pleasant and smiling. They deserve a pat on the back. All told, Rest Camp is a totally outstanding accommodation..... you will enjoy it. Management should provide Toiletries like liquid soap and shampoo. And get their generator repaired pronto.

    Reconsider staying here

I didn't have a nice stay at all, the staff wasn't very friendly, I stayed for five days and the pool is public for locals and familymembers off the staff, so the pool os everyday crowded with screaming kids and loud children, not much of REST camp. The wifi only works at the bar, but even there it's really bad. There are many blackouts in Zimbabwe, but this 'hotel' doesn't have a working generator so be prepared of being without electricity all day and all night. And if that wasn't bad enough, I didn't get my 10 USD keydeposit back since I wasn't given any receipt by the girl at the reception when I checked in.

    Easy rest camp

First, it must be clear that this is not a hotel, but a rest camp. If it's ok to stay in a park in Africa, in lodges or tents, this is the place for you. If you want to stay in a room, search another accomodation. The camp is in downtown Victoria Falls, 200 meters from the main street and 15 minutes walk to the falls. There are many shops and restaurants, fast foods and bars just along the street outside the gate. It is safe to walk around in Victoria Falls also in the evening. You can stay in a tent provided or in lodges, which have 2 bedrooms, a living room with a table, a kitchen and the bathroom. The lodges are very basic and old, but also much cheaper compared to a hotel room. There is a good à la carte restaurant: I ate there both dinner and breakfast and both were good with very affordable prices. There is a swimming pool, also if the water wasn't inviting. This said, I decided at 22:00 to leave the camp and I went at Hotel Rainbow, just accross the street. The main reason which made me decided for this was that the lodge (L11) was terribly hot. There were 35 degrees that day (which is average in Victoria Falls in October) and everything was hot in the lodge: floor, walls, beds, chairs... At 22:00 the temperature inside the lodge was for sure over 40 degrees. There was no air condition, but only a fan, which didn't help. It was practically impossible to keep the windows open, because there is no mosquito nets and as you are in a park, everything comes inside. It's true that there are mosquito nets around the beds, but the insects and animals are anyway in your room! I asked if they had a lodge with air condition and they had (L15) with an extra cost of Usd 36,-. I decided to take it anyway, but when I went there I saw a big, grey and hairy spider in the lodge and I decided not to take it and I went to the Rainbow. Contra: lodges very basic and old; no windows-glass in the living room (windows always open, but with mosquito nets); no mosquito nets on the windows in the bedrooms; some different kinds of insects and animals inside the lodges (in mine there was also a gecko); no toiletries in the bathrooms; very dark in the evening in the park and to get to the lodges; general air of neglet (3 sun beds at the pool were broken); reception open only until 22:00; the water of the swimming pool was turbid and not inviting. Pro: cheap; park well mainteined and good restaurant.

Experience a basic stay. Remember your key deposit!!!!

The cost of accommodation in Vic Falls is expensive. The Vic Falls Rest Camp offered the basic needs for a self catering stay. The cost compared to other venues in Vic Falls is cheaper but rather on the basic side. The chalet we booked was a 2 bedroom with bathroom kitchen and dining area. We had a BBQ outside. The chalet was squeaky clean. Cooking facilities were a small 2 plate oven ( which had to be replaced, and replaced with a brand new unit) a toaster and a kettle. A small undercounter sized fridge which was a challenge and enough plates knives and forks for 4 people. We used paper plates as we were not going to wash dishes 3 times a day. The beds were fine, linen clean and towels refreshed every day. It was sooo hot the ceiling fans were on permanently whilst we in residence and the extra fans we took with were moved to where we were.. in the kitchen, outside at the BBQ or in the dining room. We used the dining room chairs outside whilst braaing. The Wifi was non existent at our chalet no 7 and we had to go the the restaurant or reception to use the SLOWWWWW wifi. The pool provided a welcome respite from the constant heat. The pool however is not for residents exclusive use as many of the local towns folk and kids would use the pool and occupy all the tables and loungers. Not sure if the management enforces the rules for pool use! The restaurant In-Da-Belly was well supported and provided the much needed cold beers around the pool. We never ate there as we self catered. Beers here only cost US$2 each where everywhere else charged US$3. The only thing that really annoyed me was that when we checked out our key deposit of USD$10 was not refunded. I had forgotten about it and the receptionist did not offer it!! I gave my slip to a porter at the airport and told him to go claim it!! TIP: Remember you key deposit at check out. TIP: You can take you own drinks to the pool TIP: Sleep under a wet sheet to stay sort of cool. TIP: Buy ICE when you see it!!
