    A great place to stay.

Hotel was great. Perfect location for our needs. Staff were very nice and helpful. Nothing was to much. Breakfast was excellent and plenty of choice. Rooms were clean very spacious. Wifi was free and worked a treat. Will defiantly stay again next year.

    Comfortable beds but average hotel

We stayed out of season (September) for four nights, half board as part of a group travelling with Riviera. If I were to compliment the hotel for anything it would be the warm welcome we received when we arrived, and the assistance given by reception staff. It is well positioned for the key transport methods from Brig to destinations such as Zermatt, and the rail station boasts a very good bakery/food store. However this is a tired hotel, much in need of renovation and redecoration. The rooms are quite large, however the decor is basic to say the least, this is a base hotel rather than somewhere you would want to spend much of your time. It is not accessible for the less able, both the restaurant and the hotel itself are only accessed via steps. It boasts the smallest safe Ive ever seen in my life large enough in area to hold a passport but not geared up for modern devices cameras iPads etc. Clothes storage is minimal, no drawers and rickety, old wardrobes. Whilst the beds are comfortable, the rooms are very warm with no air-conditioning. It is possible to open the window however the noise throughout the night from the railway station opposite has a significant impact on your sleep. The doors are all accessed using a proper key and you need to remember to lock the room at night as the door latches also are not very sound, and the doors do not automatically lock. I cant remember the last time I stayed in a hotel that didnt use card keys. It came as no surprise to us that the hotel restaurant is actually run as a separate concern. The service is not great and the food is merely adequate - edible, but not very exciting and heavily reliant on pork. Plates are cleared almost before your cutlery has hit the china, and the staff hover between courses almost urging you to finish quickly. We felt that they just want you out of the way so they can concentrate on external customers. My guess is that travel companies running group tours get a significant discount. At the per night costs for B&B this hotel is simply not worth it. Its very much at the bottom end of the 3* spectrum.

    Clean but Average

Came here with Riviera travel for four nights.Hotel was clean but has seen better days. The whole hotel badly needs a/c,rooms boiling hot.Breakfsst ok but, apart from boiled eggs no hot food and tinned fruit.Evening meals just about ok but poor service. Considering what we paid not great by Riviera standards.

Friendly staff, dated but pleasant atmosphere.

Well, my visit to this hotel was due to being on a coach tour with Riviera. I found the check in pretty quick and was greeted by the friendly owner. Now, there is just the one lift, but didnt feel I waited too long to get to my room. I was a solo traveller and was pleased they had given me a double room! The room was dated and tired furniture, my room seemed to be at the back. In the room was a kettle, some paper cups and tea and coffee sachets, also some whiteners. The room was very clean with wooden floors. The other pluses: I found the bed to be really comfortable and nice white bedding. My room had a shower and worked perfectly. Again a nice clean bathroom, hairdryer hanging up. The food: I must admit I am not a morning/breakfast person, I did have a few breakfasts though. It is mainly continental, not a massive range, lovely bread and baps, very tasty. There are boiled eggs though, you might have to ask for them. They have hot milk so I used to get a small jug fill it up and you can get your own coffee from a coffee pot, or they also come around with coffee and tea. The dining room was quite nice and had atmosphere, lovely chandeliers, attentive staff but if you are with a coach party food goes quick, they do replenish it though. Evening Meal: This was in another room same level has reception. This wasnt too nice, it felt like a canteen just no atmosphere and very drab. The meals I personally found were decent, not big BUT they do around asking if you want extra. First course was mainly salad and one night soup. There is a meat option, fish and a vegetarian option. Wouldnt say it was Swiss cuisine but it wasnt bad. Overall a plain but decent hotel and would stay again, also very central, there is a small Coop 2 minutes away or a larger supermarket just further up. Food is pretty expensive in Switzerland, or just a bad exchange rate, for instance a dish of Spaghetti Bologna was about 18-20 francs. A mug of tea 3.70 -4.00 francs. Oh yes , the Swiss electrical system is different it has 3 prongs, the hotel will loan you one for a 10 franc deposit, hand it in and get your deposit back.

A grand hotel in an earlier life

The proximity to the railway station and the main features of the town of Brig are a real bonus for this hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful, making suggestions to our improve our stay and onward journey. The room overlooked the railway station but was surprisingly quiet, having a small balcony to check what was happening outside was a plus too. The hotel, as other reviewers have mentioned, is dated but it was obviously a very grand, fashionable hotel many years ago. It was spotlessly clean. The in-room safe was tiny and would have only fit our passports in and perhaps a mobile phone. The kettle was large and there was a good selection of tea and coffee. The bathroom was clean but could really do with updating, the hot water was plentiful and the shower cubicle with curtain was a decent size. The hair dryer worked but again was quite old. The bed was quite soft and the pillows, as with several of the Swiss hotels we stayed in during this week's holiday, were large, square and incredibly soft. I have to say that I was relieved to only stay one night as I didn't think the comfort of the bed and pillow was very good, for me but that's down to personal choice. My husband, on the other hand, was very happy with the quality of his sleep. Breakfast was plentiful and we had the rather impressive dining room to ourselves. There was the usual array of cold meats, eggs, cheeses, bread, cereal etc with a selection of fresh fruit.
