  Descent hotel, but not for this price

  I was traveling to Taganrog for 4 nights and booked Varvaci hotel. It was probably the most expensive hotel in Taganrog (more then my Marriott in Moscow) and I thought it will mean quality. Upon arrival, check-in required Russian internal passport, which were strange as all hotels in Russia I've stayed before and after were perfectly fine with foreign passport. Room was pretty good (high ceiling), but I would not call it "business suite" - just one room with a couch. Bathroom was ok'ish with shower actually been not very comfortable (a few strong tiny jets). I think it is important for any 3-4 star hotel to have a descent shower as travelers need it after airplane. Breakfast was probably the best feature of the hotel - pretty nice, lots of food, good service. Overall, during the stay there was not too much to complain, except the moment service forgot to bring new roll of toilet paper during cleaning :). Cleaning itself were done when I am out, so I've never run into them. Problems started night before checkout :(. Reception asked me to pay for the say night before. When I tried to pay, they informed me that card terminal is not working properly. I've suggested them to fix it by tomorrow and pay tomorrow. Reception refused and asked for alternative methods of payments. Obviously I did not have enough russian currency to pay for the stay which appeared to be a problem. So, I've suggested to pay part dollars, part rubbles, which reception was willing to accept by helping exchange dollars to get the full amount in rubbles. We checked the rate, which were about 65 rur per usd and I've give them dollars plus sum in rubbles. Next morning before leaving, reception informed me that they had to sell my dollars at the lower rate (64) and asked to pay the difference (~200 rub). Basically, Varvaci does not have card terminal working and they pushed all that inconvenience on me, including any losses in buy/sell for dollars. Weird :(. Unfortunately, that was not the end. I've ordered transfer from Varvaci to the airport and we agreed on 1400 rub. Upon arrival to the airport, taxi driver demanded 1600 rub, claiming that was the price, and he need to pay diff (200 rub) to Varvaci. Basically, it feels extremely cheap and unprofessional trying to squeeze extra 200 rub here and there, not been able to give accurate estimate, after client already paid 18000 for staying. Would I stay there again - NO, it feels to much annoyance for the highest price in the city. I would probably try to find something friendlier next time.
