  DIRTY ROOM

  Just a few minutes after we entered the room, we found a cockroach in the room, and then another! There were lots of mosquitoes in the room also! We asked to change the room, and the staff were kind enough to help us with that. But all the room carpets were dirty and the rooms had a damp feeling so we were not fully satisfied even with the other room. The safe had no operating instructions, and we had to call for assistance in order to operate it. No major English channel. Surprisingly, no CNN or BBC! They keep trying to get you private cars so they can make their commission. This is not expected of a 4 star hotel.

  Really Great Hotel Overall.

  I actually went in Feb 2014. If you are going to Canton Fair, they will have a shuttle. Some of the photos on here I have no idea why it is attached to Vanguard Hotel, but the photo with two beds and white curtain, and the marble lobby is what you will expect (minus that huge wall board). In the morning they have a buffet that makes the stay here really worth having. The buffet isn't free but it's for a good reason. The buffet is the best and cleanest food I had during my stay in Guangzhou, actual chefs cooking the whole morning. Even to this day I want to go back there for breakfast! American breakfast, and an assortment of Ramen was served everyday I was there. There's a lot more dishes served but those were outstanding. Overall really high quality dishes that will satisfy your stay. Maybe Vanguard stepped up their hotel game, but I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. If you just need a really solid place to sleep, and Amazing food then this is it. The mall was walking distance away, I think it was 15-20 mins. Roughly safe area as well. Just a heads up, only the front desk knows English --- Another Major Heads Up: When you're away from hotel property especially near canton fair watch out for Fake Cabs. Identifiable by no lift pin locks on the door or access to locks have been removed. Not really identifiable from the outside as they have the same markings. Safe Travels!

  Very good as city Hotel

  I have stayed from 16th April to 21st at Vanguard hotel for the Kenton Fair. Spacious rooms with well furnished, Central AC Also very good. Hotel cleaning also very high as 5 star hotel, but no any swimming pool facility. But very slow & connection difficult for the Wi Fi Facility. Hotel staff are very friendly & helpful, but they are speaking only in Chinese & English is very difficulty to understand to them. but somehow they managed. Prices are very reasonable & value for money.

  Old and poorly managed

  Hotel looks old and looks like it badly need renovation. Hallways are poorly lit, rooms are poorly lit. paint in bathroom ceilings peeling off, the shower enclosure base is full of soap scum. Aircon barely cooling the room, wifi works on and off. Sad to see a hotel in this state. they can easily replace the lights to make the area brighter, thorough cleaning can be done to make the place feels clean despite the age.

  It is a wonderful stay at hotel vanguard, we stayed at the vip suite at the 11th floor and the it was spacious and clean. The views of surrounding at night was gorgeous from the floor I stayed. Staff were very friendly and helpful and overall service was good. I only have a criticism about the breakfast at the hotel hence there are alot of foreign nationals stay at the hotel the range of breakfast is limited to cater only locals I wish they had a better range for breakfast.
