  Comfortable and quiet

  We spent a midweek in this Van der Valk hotel. The rooms are large and comfortable enough, the restaurant caters for fine food both at breakfast and dinner.The rooms are spread over two separate buildings, reception and restaurant are situated in a third one, so one always has to cross a court to enter the restaurant. Moreover it should be stated that in the Chalet Ludwig the rooms on the higher floors can only be reached by stairs. The old castle has an elevator, but to reach it one also has to take a flight of stairs and the restaurant can only reached by means of another flight of stairs. This should be taken into account when traveling with people with a reduced mobility.

  beautiful surroundings, unfortunatelly I do not play golf, nice court, intersting wellness in interesting environment, very friendly staff, cleanliness at a high level, next time I have to come with wife

  Comfortable and peaceful

  Wonderful surroundings, very nice old buildings and good service. One can stay there just for a night or for a week - there is plenty to do and to see around. Importantly - it is all for a very reasonable price.

  Nice historical hotel in a quiet location

  Former castle is now a Van der Valk Hotel. Rooms were okay, quite big with new bathrooms. A bit pricey for being in the middle of nowhere. The breakfast in corona times was a lot of food, the organisation took too much time. You had to choose the day before out of 3 different breakfast sets, and a time you wanted to have breakfast. Not alle times were alwys available. If you arrived on time you still had to have quite a long wait until you got your table and then your breakfast set. Quality and volume good, for us too much food. We tried the restaurant in the evening twice, once was a candle light dinner. Well the candle light was a tea light and no other decoration, a bit poor. We expected more, as we have had in other hotels allover. The Dinner was the standard 3 course half board plus one extra dish with shrimps. Quality is standard and okay, nothing fancy, no special flavours. For a hotel with 4 stars we would expect more, especially as they praise their kitchen experience on their website as culinary treats, which they are not. When the restaurant is quite busy, the personnel was a bit hectic and not too professionell.

  Over rated

  After our booking in the Schloss hotel Ballenstedt had been over booked , we were sent to this hotel only 5 km away being told the rooms would be the same as in Ballenstedt. We spent one night in a dreadful room , paint peeling from the walls . The shower full of mould and really steep stairs to climb (no lift) !! Meal was nothing to write home about !. We paid 140,00 not worth any more than 60.00
