  Afrika Festival

  Perfect weekend stay for visiting the Afrika Festival at Openluchttheater Hertme. Reachable within half an hour by car or by bike. Good, space room, perfect breakfast buffet and you could even have a fair enough dinner if you'd like to.

  Loved it

  We had a really good stay. Booked through their own site, with a free upgrade to a premium room. When we got there, we discovered all their rooms are renovated and now 'premium'. But nonetheless, the room was great, very comfortable, everything clean. Breakfast is really great, I love the big buffet with everything you could wish for at breakfast. It was very busy when we stayed here, but the staff is always friendly and helpful.

  VdValkHotel Hengelo: thumbs up!

  The van der Valk Hotel Hengelo is a really good hotel, with a great restaurant. We experienced a large and very tasty assorted buffet breakfast. Very nice and quiet rooms with perfect beds. Professional staff. It's a pity the draining of the bathroom did not work well, but within minutes after our phone call the maintanance staff and the manager were there to fix the inconvenience.

  A true four star experience

  Some hotels, presenting itself as four star category, have luxury lobbies, polite and friendly staff, a spacious restaurant and ample free parking. But the core business, providing lodging, is, I am sorry to day, a bit Spartan. Basic provisions as a clean room, a good bed and a spacious bathroom are OK, but those extras to be expected from a four star hotel are absent. Here Van Der Valk shines. The luxury lobby, the friendly staff, the ample free parking are there. But the room has also the four star feeling; clean and spacious, with a comfortable bed and a gleaming spacious bathroom. But those small four star extras are also there. A rack for the suitcases, a safety deposit box a fridge and a coffee machine, which are glaringly absent in other four star hotels I visited in the Netherlands. The only small remarks I can make is that I am no fan of the shallow wash basin in the bathroom and my regret that instead of an electric kettle Van Der Valk has opted for a capsule coffee maker. Van Der Valk is my favourite hotel chain in the Netherlands. I forgot to mention the buffet breakfast with a huge selection of food and drink. Not only is Van Der Valk Hengelo a true four star hotel, also good deals can be scored when in the loop with the offerings of this hotel chain

  Fast dinner, fantastic

  The road restaurants were closed, so nothing else than the Van der Valk Hotel. Can you eat fast here? Well you bet! I entered and they saw I was in a hurry, I ordered a tuna steak with scrambled potatoes, salad and beans. And it came within 10 minutes, without me even saying I was in a hurry. The food was well prepared, steak very tasty and all in all I was no more than super-duper happy. I left with a full stomach and many roadside restaurant can't beat the serving times here! Also been here second time and was all just as perfect and good. Took a little longer but, yet again: great place.
