Training trip to OmiyaWhen I could not find a hotel room for my entire stay in Omiya, I ended up at this hotel in nearby Urawa. Easy to get to from station. Breakfast restaurant and a selection of other restaurants. Coin PC for Internet. Quiet and undisturbed business type hotel.

Not bad at all.Washington Hotel is a one of big Business hotel chain in Japan. I have stayed 2 other locations in Tokyo. I would not recommend if you would plan to stay more than a couple of nights, because room is compact size. You should go and stay at Royal Pines Hotel Urawa. They are about 10 minutes walk from this hotel, and price is less than $100 a night (Weekend price may be higher). But they are whole lot comfortable hotel to stay over week. Room in Washington Hotel is small, but clean. Bath room is small, but it is very decent and clean. Front Desk Lobby is on the 3rd floor. Check In and Out is very speedy. They offer free breakfast which restaurant is located on the grand level. They serve variety of meals; Japanese and Western. I liked the food. Location is part of very busy shopping district. You find no problem for eating out and shopping. This business hotel is great for stay 1 or 2 nights. If you are checking out "Super Hotel Saitama Omiya", don't go over there, especially if you have Claustrophobia. Their room is no different than walking closet. Choose Washington Hotel instead, you can breathe air in a room, and price is not that much different. This hotel is far better than Super Hotel Saitama. By the way, Access to Tokyo is bit too far, BUT there are 2 different trains which are Utsunomiya Line and ShouNan Shinjuku Line can take you into the Tokyo, Ueno, Ikebukuro, Shinjuku and Shibuya less than 30 minutes. If this is inconvenient for you, then stay in Washington Hotels in Tokyo area.

A good quality hotel but not in the centre of TokyoThe hotel is a little difficult to find as it lies over an arcade of shops and cafes. Take the lift to the 3rd floor for the lobby and check in. You are transformed from the street hustle and bustle to a calm professional arrival. Staff were friendly and helpful. Western visitors looked rare and the use of English language was limited but they tried. Rooms were much larger than most in Japan, were clean and well equipped. We were visiting family who lived near yet but this would be a good base to explore Tokyo as it is 5 minutes walk to a station taking you to the centre in 20 mins if you catch the express. Good shopping adjacent and plenty of places to eat.

Tiny rooms in desperate need of an updateGiven that the price of this hotel was about 50% more than what hotels in Tokyo or Sapporo charged I was totally disappointed in this place. The best thing about it is that it is in walking distance to the Urawa Train Station. However, the hotel and the room was in a desperate need of an update. We had a twin room that looked straight out of the 60s or early 70s with built in wooden furniture. The bathroom was the tiniest one we have had in Japan and, again, it looked dated. They have an antiquated heating and cooling system. So, if they decide to switch the hotel to heat or cold that is all you can get in your room, no matter what the actual outside temperature is. All you can do is control the fan speed. We were there on a warm, early December day and the tiny room was very stuffy. Luckily we could open a window which made the situation a bit more tolerable. Bedding was very average and the same was true for sleeping comfort. The towels were very thin and looked old. They did offer a free (mostly Japanese) breakfast, which was suprisingly good. Undortunately there was no English description in the food items so one had to try them out to find out was actuall served. Staff was friendly and fairly efficient. Overall, I would recommend another place until Urawa Hotel is renovated.

Compact room, short distance from Urawa StationStopped in Urawa on a trip from Mibu (north of Tokyo) to Nagoya. The hotel is a short walk from the west entrance of the station. It's been 8 years since I've been to this station, it is completely remodeled. If you have luggage on rollers, the walkway is a little bumpy. However, it's not far enough to warrant a cab ride. The hotel entrance is located in an alley nearest the station, not along the main road. Take the elevator to the 3rd floor. Front desk was helpful. Manager was there to help the staff, since I was speaking English. Room was on the 9th floor, away from the elevator. Room was smoking, because they didn't have any more non-smoking rooms. If smoke bothers you, be sure to get a reservation for a non-smoking room well ahead of time. In-room wifi available, works best in the morning when people are gone. Had two twin beds for a family of 3. Not much room to walk around, but it isn't necessary. Decor is nice, modern. Refrigerator needs to be turned on. I couldn't find any controls for the AC, and a device on the wall that looked like an AC unit device was in Japanese. Room temp in early April was ok, though, since the weather outside was cool. I would stay again if I could get a non-smoking room. Did not take the breakfast option. There is a large variety of restaurants in the area, so it's not necessary to eat in the hotel. There are also three major department stores near the station, 2 on the west side, for shopping.
