  Great location, awful service

  Great location, right by the lift so we didn't need to get the bus as we needed to do on our first stay in Maria Alm. The rooms are fine, a bit dated but clean. The service was pretty awful. We were a big group of friends and they just were very unpleasant. Too many of us maybe to handle at once but then they shouldn't have accepted the booking. The fact that we were all English speakers was a problem for them. Be also prepared to eat 'school dinner' food. Processed meat for most of the time and potatoes. After 4 nights of this, my husband and I couldn't face yet an other dinner there so we went out to Maria Alm. On the morning we were leaving, very early at 5am. We asked them to leave us some sandwiches at reception so we could eat in the bus to Minich. They said yes, but there was nothing there for us. Great location but be prepared to have to deal with very bad food and rudeness.

  Lovely little hotel

  Me and my friend stayed for two nights in this small hotel in Austrian Alps. We were there in August but guess in Winter must be much more nicer especially to enjoy the skiing. But we enjoyed the countryside and lakes nearby. The hotel room was very nice, stuff was nice, only the breakfast was not what we expected... almost no choice, looked like its a problem to get a coffee or eggs in the morning... that we got at the end but eggs with no taste and it took about half an hour to get a cup of coffee. So do not expect a great breakfast otherwise it was very nice!

  Reservation cancelled on the spot

  Simple story really - made a resrvation on the phone on Friday, 10 October 2014 - for one night on Saturday, 11 October 2014 as we were travelling and passing through the area. We were quoted the price and told to come and that we would be expected. On the 11th we arrived at the hotel and it was locked with a note on the door saying this location was closed, but they had another one open in Maria Alm itself. I called the number and the "gentleman" on the other side told me he knew about our reservation, but we cannot have the room. Reason - we only booked for one night and they require two nights or more. The reservation was "taken by the guy in the shop and he does not know". Simple as that. Why this was not mentioned when our reservation was accepted, no idea. Why does someone who "does not know" answer the phone and communicates on behalf of the hotel, no idea. Why there is still the option to book one night on different travel sites, no idea. To add colour to the situation, we were travelling with our two kids - aged 1 year 1 month and 2 years 11 months. You get the picture. I would have thought that even if someone showed up without a reservation, a good host will try to make it possible to accommodate a family with two little ones, but this is not the host at Unterberg. My advice - avoid if you can!!! The area is really nice though - there are also plenty of other nice places to stay so you have a choice.

  great stay

  We stayed for a week in August and had a great stay. The food was good, the room was spacious and silent, and the personnel was perfect. It seems that the management is now in hands of the daughter and a new chef is running the kitchen. The first day we had some trouble with wasps in the dining room but this happened also in our hotel on the way to this vacation. Our German is really basic but everybody was really kind to repeat or explain. When I had a medical problem, the staff was really helpful.

  The hotel is close to the ski slopes and that was a big plus for us. The rooms are spaceus and big, bed squeak but it is not so terible. The food is good but for the dinner we weited for an haur and a half that they brought us soup, main dish and dessert. We also found a hair in the food :(. The stuff is nice and friendly. You can also rent skiis and helmets and this stuff which is very convenient.
