Lives up to its promiseWe had strolled by here many times while walking on beautiful Union Avenue and thought this place was very unique and lovely. We stayed in December for a Christmas shopping trip -- a family group with three rooms. It was just what we hoped, in fact even better. The off season rates were very reasonable. The rooms were large and beautifully decorated in the period style. The lobby is stunning, the breakfast was delicious, and the innkeepers were very friendly and helpful. I really can't say enough about this place, and hope to be able to visit one year during track season, when the gardens must be fantastic.

Extraordinary Hospitality! We just returned from a three-night stay at the Union Gables Inn, where we experienced a truly exceptional commitment to customer service. I had reserved our racing season weekend stay back in February, pre-COVID, and pre-paid for the reservation, per the Inns racing season policy. I had several telephone calls with the reservations staff leading up to our arrival to confirm that the Inn was still accepting guests and confirmed our arrival and departure dates the week before arrival. Unbeknown to us, the Inn was sold in late July, and the old owner moved our reservation to 2021 without our knowledge. So when we arrived, Anthony, the new owner, had no record of our reservation and the main house was actually closed. Suffice to say, he was quite surprised to see us! After only a few minutes of discussing the situation and showing our paperwork, Anthony said: This is my problem, not your problem. Lets get you settled. He opened the Inn just for us!!!! The three-person room we had reserved the Cindy -- wasnt made up, so Anthony upgraded us to two separate rooms, the Edward and the Annie. He summoned his manager, T.J. (who probably expected the weekend off) who arrived quickly and helped us settle in to our rooms. T.J. could not have been nicer or more helpful, helping us with luggage, getting us bottled waters for the rooms and towels for the pool, bringing us a Keurig machine for coffee and working to get the cable TV to work. He was a constant presence throughout our stay. They werent doing their typical dining room breakfast due to COVID (plus the fact that we were the only ones there) but TJ prepared huge, delicious breakfast baskets that he delivered to our room each morning. He also provided recommendations for restaurants and things to do, as did Anthony. We had a wonderful stay. The old Inn is beautiful the perfect mix of Victorian charm and modern convenience. Our beds were comfortable, with amazingly soft sheets, the air conditioning worked perfectly and the showers had great water pressure. We enjoyed having the run of the house, using the large, well- maintained pool (which we mostly had to ourselves) and drinking wine on the broad front porch. And the location is great, a short walk both to downtown and the track. It was exactly what we hoped for. I am still blown away by the gracious hospitality that Anthony and TJ showed to us. The easiest thing for them to do was to tell us the Inn was closed and send us on our way. Instead, they owned the error (dishonesty really) of the prior owners and bent over backwards to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. This kind of customer service is extremely rare these days. Anthony is a horseman and has big plans to incorporate racing related packages into the Inns offerings in the future. I encourage anyone interested in a great Saratoga experience to stay at the Union Gables. I know for certain that we will return,

Bait and SwitchI've been visiting Saratoga Springs during the racing season for over 40 years. My family and I have also been to Saratoga other times besides during racing season. Union Gables Inn has always been on our radar because of their reputation. A few weeks ago we decided to give it a try. It was also easier to get a reservation this racing season because live racing at the track was not open to fans. I booked a reservation for 2 rooms that would accommodate the 6 in our family. The reservation was confirmed along with a confirmation number attached. About 3 days before we were to check in I receive a phone call from the property informing me that new owners had taken over the Inn and that they were not going to honor the confirmation that I had received. They now wanted double the room rate that I was confirmed for. After going back forth with emails and phone calls they offered another new rate which still was nowhere comparable to what I was originally confirmed. Their claim was that it was " Travers Week". They couldn't be more wrong because all the other hotels in the city were very competitive with their rates knowing that fans were not allowed to participate in viewing the live racing. The hotel rates throughout the city have been adjusted properly because of the pandemic which is going on. Plus as stated before no fans were being allowed into the track. But management at Union Gables thought otherwise. The " new management team" could not even contact me directly, but instead chose to speak with me through their front desk person or whatever his title was. The Inn is entitled to charge whatever they see fit to, but to not HONOR an existing confirmation is along with the rate that was confirmed is totally unprofessional and unheard of. They should have viewed the existing reservations and honored that rate and then proceed with whatever they felt they wanted to charge per night. The entire experience was handled so poorly with them switching the rate on us and their dialog was such that this property cannot be trusted. Saratoga Springs is known for their friendliness especially during racing season. Apparently this new management needs to polish up their act if they want to succeed in the city like the previous owners had. Plus in lieu of the pandemic their breakfast offering had to be compromised which is another reason to have honored the original confirmation. My family chose to not be manipulated by such a tactic and we stayed at another property who welcomed us. The Union Gables Inn and their new management is now a property that I never stayed in, and certainly never will.

STAY AWAY !! Beware of new owner!!Dont be fooled by the 5 star reviews for this place - the hundreds of reviews are for the old owner- it has since been bought in the last few weeks by an unethical nasty businessman. As the last couple of reviews stated, we had the same experience. He yanked our reservation from us days before our arrival unless we agreed to pay him more than double what the guaranteed rate was initially. We had a conformation email for our rate which to me is a contract and he refused to honor it. When I tried to persuade him to honor our rate and reservation he started yelling at me and belittling me. Great way to treat guests in the hospitality industry. I guess in the end he did us a favor because I cant imagine the other problems we would have run into, dealing with such an unethical owner if we ended up staying there. There are so many great choices to stay in Saratoga with unbelievable hosts. Stay somewhere else and be treated as a valued guest and where the owners understand WE are the reason they survive or fail in this business.
