    Incredible place!!

We loved everything about our stay at Undara. The Pioneer Hut was spotless and comfortable. Just be prepared that there is no crockery/ cutlery in the room ( other than coffee cups) but apparently you can get it from the reception area.( we had our own camping set) Spacious room and large verandah area, facing bush land, for relaxing. This place has some creative thinkers .... and ihey have combined history and nature beautifully. Had the most delicious barramundi dinner - it was superb and great value!! The tours were wonderful - we enjoyed the Archway and loved the sunset tour. ( Wes was a brilliant tour guide) Wifi was swift and easy. Staff were extremely hard working and friendly. Overall it was an awesome experience - thank you all.

Some changes needs to be made

It was not easy for me to rate this property. I would give it between 1 to 5 stars for different experiences. The drive from Cairns was just under 4 hours and after Ravenshoe there was hardly any traffic. Lovely drive. We arrived at Undara at lunchtime but couldn't check in before 2pm. The checkin Girl was explaining everything so fast that she stumbled with words. We booked the Pioneer Hut. It had a big veranda overlooking the Bush with its beautiful Wildlife. The room size was decent and the shower was modern and huge. Car space was in front of the cabin. Due to my Job I stayed in hundreds of different types of Accomodations and use antibacterial wipes due to some bad experiences in the past. Lucky I do !!! The light switch, A/C remote, door and fridge handle wasn't cleaned at all and this in Covit19 times. On the bedspread which I know hardly gets washed in most accomodations the Towels were nicely placed on top..YUCK There were only sheets on the Bed, the actual Quilt was squashed into a Wardrobe...... I couldn't believe my eyes, it was filthy and smelly with red/ brown spots on it. No idea how long it has been in there.I didn't touch it, just saw the Top and seen enough. We were so pleased that we travelled with our own Quilts and Pillows. Also the foot towel was placed on the rubber foot mat, which never get washed. This all screams for a disaster. There are no Tvs or radios in the rooms. The Cave tour was amazing. A Minibus brought us in less as 10 min to the Caves. In 2 hours we learned a lot and our Guide was funny and professional. Please note there are no facilities around the Caves. Dinner was between 6pm to 8.30pm.... You need to order at the Counter and when the Buzzer beeps you pick up your Order. Cutlery was placed in Baskets open for everyone to handle, better wipe it before you use it....Everyone could have touched it. The Fish was the Best we ever ate. My compliment to the Chef. Please bring a Torch when visiting the Bistro at night to get back to your Hut/ Railway cars after Dinner. You will see lots of different things with a Torch after sunset. Bring books or games for the evening. In the Bistro which is really well done, the roof resembles the Caves entry from the distance. Here you get 8hrs free Wifi. For people who are addicted to the net it's a Bonus, although I think it's nice to turn everything off once in a while. Lots of Wildlife is around and some great walking trails... The Bush breakfast was very popular and is placed app. 250m away from the Resort set in natural Bushland. It's an easy walk. The fun aspects was when the Birds were trying to steal your food. Unfortunately the Grill looked very dirty with grease dripping down on the sides. Everything else looked fine. Undara could be a lovely place in the Wilderness if more Hygiene would be applied. Would I recommend it? Yes !!

What a great place to stay. My husband & i stayed their a long long time ago, camped actually but this time we stayed in one of there cabins. We took my sister with us who has lived in Cairns for a long time but never been here. We all had a great time, meals were terrific & staff were very friendly & helpful. The chef they had was very young but cooked terrific meals. The atmosphere is very relaxing, you can also stay in old train carriages if you like. The cabin was great, it faced out looking towards the Bush, lots of wildlife, who highly recommend a visit.

    Great with a but.

The lava tubes are downright amazing, the tour from Undara Experience has a wonderful guide with plenty of knowledge and happy to be doing his job. The tour options are limited, 2 hours is all we could get for $60, we and I assume a lot of people visit here on their trip to elsewhere so we were hoping for an hour tour which would work as their is lot of stopping to talk on the tour. Should look into that option. Mostly overall the place is beautiful and the experience setup is good, my biggest issue was no dogs allowed, they should allow on leash and or tied up in the main area at least so wildlife is safe, we had to send one person onward to next camp with dog so he missed the experience. Almost everyone camping in the areas around here has dogs so they are missing out of plenty of revenue from people who can't visit. If you don't have a dog, go at it, great place.

    Great camping facilities available

Firstly, for people considering a trip here reading this review it is important to note that at the time of writing this review Undara will be closed (shuts down from November to March) . Given this is accomodation review I'll just talk about this aspect rather than our tour of the lava tubes. The accomodation facilities here are well established, given it's popularity as a stop on the savannah way. There are numerous options from converted railway carriages, powered and unpowered site and camping. We camped one night. The camping facilities here were fantastic. There were clearly marked sites each with fire pits. There are adjacent toilet and shower facilities. There was a basic kitchen facility with BBQ's available. There was a small pool. However, what was most impressive was the large reception area which had good strength free wifi as well as bolstered Telstra mobile signal (you won't get any signal outside of this area). There is a bar and a restaurant which you need to book into. Adjacent to the accomodation was the lava tubes but also a number of bush walks. People staying here could easily stay 2 nights rather than just one. We were very happy with our stay.
