An oasis in a busy cityThis was such a lovely place to stay in an otherwise busy and noisy city. Our family 'room' was a suite of two rooms and en suite bathroom. The rooms were clean and beautifully presented. We loved the little outside pool and the seating area is perfect if you want to buy food and bring it back. There were even lovely white bathrobes provided. Friendly staff, too. The surrounding area isn't pretty but we loved the diversity of the city.

A pool and hot tub !Very quirky! The room that we are in is the second floor, the stairs are steep! It had so much character ! Kings Henry style toilets and olde worlde furnishings! I am over 6 foot so the bed is a struggle! But the cold pool and hot tub is a god send when you return from exploring Marseille ! Marseille is nice and a good vibe, cheaper than Paris! Public transport can get you to Catalans beach or a ferry to Pointe Rouge from the port is a better beach! 5 Euro each way. All in all Un Mas en Ville is in a great location and the pool and hot tub is great! Very unique hotel ! We were there for 8 nights and didnt have a bed change or room cleaned. 2 changes of towels, although if you asked they would always help, English not widely spoken. The port is walking distance.

Quirky, shame about the poor customer service and breakfastWe booked a 4 night stay as a calm central location to return to after a busy day's sightseeing. The place itself is clean and architecturally interesting. Unfortunately, the host is inhospitable and extremely surly. The breakfast consists of bread, jam, croissants, yogurt and coffee/tea. The same every day. Despite advertising breakfast runs until 10am, if you are not at the table by 0950 your crockery is removed and you cannot even avail a coffee! However, I would avoid the coffee after 0830 as it is repeatedly reheated to the point of it being burnt. The rooms are comfortable and well equipped, however, the staircase is very steep and very creaky and unlocking bedroom doors is noisy and we felt uncomfortable moving around and felt we had to whisper all the time. The hot tub sits next to the breakfast table and is not much bigger than a large bath - I didn't see anyone use the tub. When we asked about restaurants nearby, we were informed of fast food takeaways, however, we discovered an abundance of bars and restaurants within a very short walk. The location is a 15 minute walk to the man square which hosts a beautiful Marina and great restaurants. The roads are very steep so if you have difficulty walking, this is not for you. The B&B is located in the 'artistic district' - so the buildings are covered in graffiti, which for me was a surprise but added to the charm. I heard that the area was dangerous but we didn't feel at all threatened and the local people were extremely friendly and helpful. If you visit this area, take time out to visit the National Park and if you are fit enough, climb down to the beach below - it is spectacular!

Provencal quirkiness with a heartWe were three, each with a single room, aligned on first to third floors. The beds were in fact small doubles. The one drawback was that the tiniest bathrooms you ever saw were on the landings, though we each had sole use, and bathrobes were provided. The very reasonable price reflected this slight inconvenience. All the other bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms. The building was converted some 10 years ago, by stone masons. Whoever designed it must have had enormous fun ensuring that the style was totally that of a Provencal 'mas' or farmhouse. Breakfast was French and copious and laid on the table. (No buffet with the wide variety of international cuisine here, and for us that was all to the good.) We did not use the 'Roman baths' swimming pool as this was October and it was unheated. Must be wonderful in the summer. Sadly we were not informed that there was a jacuzzi until our last breakfast. The managers went out of their way to provide us with that breakfast one hour earlier than they usually start serving, as we had an early train to catch. Location was very near the central attractions of the city, but not in a tourist area itself. Many interesting restaurants to be discovered just five minutes away at Notre Dame du Mont by turning left out of the front door. Metro station there as well.
